Scion BIG brakes
Im thinking of going with the wilwood's in the front (4 pistoen superlite) and i was reading old posts and ive noticed that only kingsmart sells a read disc conversion, has naybody used this rear disc conversion? Or has anybody tried the kingsmart brake system (front)... Please let me know because i really want to make my scion stop ona dime.

Big brake kits are good on a high horsepower application but are not really needed on your box, or the xA for that matter. The O.E. stuff does a really excellent job and performance gains in braking are not really made w/ slots or drills. The stopping power comes from the ability to dissipate heat and prevent fading. The more pad surface = more dissipation = better braking power. However, you can actually lose performance hp and torque wise with a big rim/ big brake setup because you are placing more un-sprung weight farther from the center of rotation, this can decrease acceleration and actually increase braking distance if improperly used. So if you are not running a 12sec box on 20in rims, just go with a setup I suggested (or another option in this post) and keep it to a minimal cost for the most performance.

P.S. Slotted rotors help with gas build-up on the pad surface but are probably only going to aid your braking in a road-course type condition. Even Supercar manufacturers will tell you that slotted and drilled rotors are mostly for cosmetic purposes, that is why they run a large rotor to get the look they want and maintain performance of a smaller O.E. blank

good thread. on my old 2000 toy corolla i added kvm semi metallic pads and thats all...and it made a difference
with my box im going to go with better pads, and ss brake lines, ive done some reading on ss brake lines and i wish i had found them for my old corolla...seems like a very nice upgrade..though dont know if i would be able to install them lol im still a newb, but have done brake pads before

What about a stock rear conversion? Nothing out there?
I'd still appreciate a link to the brake upgrades. I might just have to go with 'big brakes' just to get rid of the rear drums...
But yeah, big brakes on a xB is like having a parachute on a bicycle...

So it's really gonna cost me ~$700+ to get rid of those drums?
I don't even want big brakes. I really just want a stock replacement for the drums...
Now that I think more about it, big brakes would be bad, because then I couldn't use the steelies as winter tires...
That would suck.
