mine doesn't clunk. Maybe some people will accept shoddy workmanship, but if mine were to clunk after I had the dealer install my parts, I would expect it to be fixed promptly.

I'm with you...turning up the stereo has never been a good fix.

I'm lowered and don't "clunk", but it did when the strut nut came loose. Sometimes, if the springs are not properly seated, that could potentialy make some noise also.

I'm pretty sure someone will post up, of PM, contrary to what I have cuz I'm no expert. They always have and always will.

Accepting a "clunk" with a 1" drop is ridiculous. When I had a static drop on my Dakota I never heard a clunk. And if I had, I would have fixed it. And the static drop on my truck was 6" front / 8" rear! A whole lot more possibility for "clunk" generation when you change out 75% of your suspension components and not just springs.

The nightmare continues...I called Power Toyota of Cerritos to find out the status of the "clunk" investigation. The service manager told me that they would need to keep my xB for ANOTHER day. This will make four days to correct a problem that they caused. They still have no solution and are waiting for an "expert" to check into it. This makes five weeks since I picked up the xB and I'm still not done with the dealer. Two items on my options list have not arrived and there is no scheduled date as when they are expected. I am a DJ on a morning radio station and I have held back from saying anything negative about the dealer on the air but I'm at the point now where I am ready to let them have it with both barrels. Once more I have left a message on the voice mail of the General Manager and will wait to see if I receive a return call. If I could give the car back and buy it from another dealer I would.

Sorry for the rant, I just want my Box back!

Dude - Have/had (fixing it tomorrow) The clunking is the top strut nut. It has to be torqued to 97 ft lbs per the repair manual - "Alot" of people don't take it that high. Look at the NOTICE after part "d" and you'll see the torque value. Also, not beating on you, but you should learn to turn a wrench! It's fun and you'll learn something new everytime + your car is in your driveway, not at the stealerships - here's the link... https://www.scionlife.com/tech/manua.../xb04_1180.gif

Ps - they'll sue you if you defame them on the air (ie. you're unemployed now)"and" you can take you're car to any Scion dealership - I live 120 miles from where I bought mine... look into it...

Thanks for the input. Since it's a brand new vehicle and they installed the springs I'm having them fix the problem. As for defaming them on the air, if everything said is true I can't be touched...great thing about freedom of speech and having a program director who stands behind his jocs.

Thursday afternoon update: The dealer has stripped out my wheel locks and rounded off a few of the lug nuts. They had to drill out the locking lugs and are looking for replacements as we speak. The xB has been there since Monday and they don't even know if they have fixed the problem with the noise in the front end. Fixed or not as soon as they have the lugs replaced I'm picking it up and taking it to another dealer. More to come.......

Love the Box, not the dealer

I was actually going to say that. Damn people and their beating me to it.

I had that problem after I had my bags installed, or should I say after I installed my bags. The nut on the top of the strut needs to be cranked down with an impact wrench. Some shops dont want to mess with the cowl piece cuz its a _____, so they just try and tighten it with a ratchet which never tightens as much as they think it does. I say they should have you put goggles on and go down watch them do it. I fought with the service manager here in at a phoenix dealer until they let me do it, I threatened better business bureau. They said i broke something, but it was just the nut.

To tell you the truth, with the techs at Power stripping my locks and rounding my lugs, I'd rather have Elway work on it!

A common problem with GoldLine springs, a clunking when going in/out driveways or on speedbumps. I could see the spot that rubbed when the car was lifted, down near where the bottom of the spring sits on the plate thing (pardon my technical jargon)

Stylis from Precisionmuffler.com fixed it for me by taking the plastic sheathing off of the OEM springs and putting it onto the GoldLines. It's black so its not very noticable on the OEMs and seemed thin and I was skeptical that it would stand up to the grinding of the metal to metal but it has. Several thousand miles later and no clunking. It would be a cheap and simple thing to try since I have trouble believing it is a loose nut, if they've R&R'ed it twice. Maybe a loose nut between the steering wheel and the seat, but that's another issue...

i picked up the xB last night and there was not one service person in sight. The Box was clean and shinny with a full tank of gas and a new set of wheel locks. The dealer went out and bought Gorilla's which was a nice surprise since I only had a set of McGards on there when it went in. The noise in the front end is gone but the techs gave no reason for the noise or what they did to fix it. Either they don't want to admit they screwed it up in the first place or they just got lucky and fixed it without knowing how they did it. One thing is for sure, now that the options have been installed they will NEVER touch my Box again. An unfortunate thing for them, I have not filled out any of the four surveys that I have received from the dealer and Scion...this will be fun!

Merry Christmas to all and to all enjoy your Boxes!

I would call back during regular hours and force an answer out of them. it's your car, they should be able to tell you what they did or what they concluded...

Now that my blood pressure had dropped to a normal level and I have my Box back I think I'll chock it up to another great mystery of life like the Burmuda Triangle or Arrea 51. I talked to a tech at a Scion dealer closer to my home and he agrees with many of the posts on this site that the nut on the strut was loose. It seems to handle just fine and there is no noise coming from the front end. I am going to install a tower strut bar in the next week or two but I am doing it my damn self.

Have a Merry Christmas and remember the reason for the season...the shamless profit of credit card companies!

Just have them take it apart and do it again. I am sure the spring has just hasn't sat propperly.
