Curb Rash
Seems curb rash is on the rise, in fact I would say that over half of wheels I see being listed for sale have it. I am talking any car and not necessarily Scions. My question is how many of you have smacked that curb at one time or another. Furthermore, how in the hell did you do it? Are you are careless driver who is just a complete monkey behind the wheel? Do you intentionally do it to justify the purchase of new wheels?
I have been driving for about 14 years now and I have never curbed a wheel on a street car. I race SCCA as a hobby and have beaten a few wheels in my time but that is racing on a road course and completely different. My scion has 35 series tires, which are really rubber bands all things considered, and yet, no problems. In fact I have never owned a car that didnt have low profile wheels over a 45 series. Do I drive like a preacher on the roads....hell no....in fact I drive like a bat out of hell and have done so since I started at 16yo.
At first I thought it was an age thing. Young drivers with little experience. But then I saw a middle aged guy driving a porsche with rash. I thought it was maybe common with girls because they tend to pay more attention to their cell phone calls or vanity mirrors, but then out of all my female friends only one curbed it.
So, I just don't know.....tell me what you think.

I've owned 29 cars in my 46 years of driving, and have managed to scar up a few wheels - especially on 4x4s. So far on my Scions there is no damage, and I hope to keep it that way.

i've curb rashed a few tires on old cars learning how to parallel.
now in teh past few years with rims i always cautiously park too far away and have not curbed any in a long time.

i've learned to take my car to a detail shop in the winter that does hand wash. i most of my own in the summer but this shop is awesome for me. i might even hit them up some in the summer time.
when i first got my car with 18's i curb rash my right side rims trying to parallel... and now with my 19's i curbed them really bad by dodging a dog on the road.... oh well always can get new wheels or just take them to a pro polisher.
i think that it just happens. i curbed my wheels once and i was ____ed. misjudged and went back just enough to scuff the wheel a bit.
do you really find it surprising that curbed wheels are for sale though? most people can't or won't swap out wheels unless they get messed up, so if they get curbed, what better time to sell them?

So far on this thread I have seen a couple curbed because there was no other option. A couple more from parallel parking which I had forgotten about, but the rest are pretty much just carelessness. Now the question becomes if the majority of curbing comes from carelessness, why is that so. Then we go back to age, gender, financial status or just overall disregard for one own property. Probably to broad of a subject to figure out here but I thought I would give it a shot. :D
I curbed a set of wheels one time. I was a at a whitecastle drive thru and was slowing idling foward, not paying attention, as my broke ___ was looking for change in the couple holders to pay for my chicken rings. They were painted wheels though so they were easy to fix.
I curbed my stockers at the drive thru ATM once. I'm kinda lazy, duh, and pull up really close to the machine so it's easy to reach. I got my money and car and forgot that my wheels were turned slightly towards the curb and when I pulled foreward I heard that sickening crunching noise. It almost made me sick.
