Default Help Me Fix My Tire! How???????

Hey Scioners! I have the infamous tire shop "unrepairable" nail in the sidewall. My tire is losing about 5 psi per week. I keep filling it up with air and I can still drive it.

Since no tire shops I have been to will fix it, can I use that Fix-A-Flat or comparable product? Can I hear some good and bad opinions about these types of products? I will be getting new rims/tires in a few months so I dont want to buy a new stock tire now. Please advise...thanks!

I don't think fix-a-flat would help since it coats the tread section. If multiple tire shops refuse fix the tire, best to get it replaced. If you decide to keep driving on it, you should probably swap it to the rear if it's not already.

You should replace the tire... a nail in the sidewall isn't really something that can be safely patched...

yeah...if a tire place, you know a place a specializes in tire installation and repair says they can't repair the tire then guess what, you probably can't repair the tire. i mean come on. these places do nothing that doesn't have to do with tires. take their word for it. you aren't going to fix it yourself with some miracle off the shelf goo.

Thank you all for you input. That's exactly what I was looking for. I only asked because Discount/America's Tire has screwed me many times in the past and I was wondering if this was another occasion. I guess I'll have to bear down and get a new tire.

Once again...thank you all for the quick response!

i'm not saying they can't be wrong, by all means take it somewhere for a second opinion, but if it was absolutely possible to fix it with some tire goo i'm sure they would have told you they can.

In Indiana, it is illegal for a tire shop to repair a punture in the sidewall. Not sure what the reasoning is, but that is what I have been told by my buddy who works at a local shop.

Yeah. You don't fix sidewalls. Once punctured, you replace the tire. It's dangerous to be running around with a punctured sidewall or even a sidewall that has been smashed up against a curb & with chunks of sidewall missing.

( 'o') !

if its in the actual sidewall then ur screwed. but if u get a nail in the corner where its not actually the sidewall yet its repairable tho some shops won't do it. i have had this happen twice and each time some shops won't touch it and some will. i had america's tire in vegas patch it for me the first time but when i got it the second time they wouldn't touch it here in sac. i had to go to les scwab and they fixed it for me. according to americas tire if its not in the middle of the tread at the center of the tire its not repairable. i think its just so they can sell more tires. i mean sidewall should be not repairable but anything from the corner to the center should be.

I guess this is my fault for not clarifying. The nail is actually in the corner of the tire in the last block of treads. It is not acually on the "side" of the tire. You all have given me great advice and for the safety of myself and my family...I'm getting a new tire tomorrow. Thanks!
