Default Help a noob......Help with Offset and tire size with a 17x7

Hey everyone wanted to get some feedback I am going to get this wheel

http://www.wheelmax.com/product.asp?ProdId=1695

First off I searched many topics but wanted different opinions from different people breathe a little fresh breathe into a already dead topic

My questions are as followed

1.Am I going to run into any problems with a 42 offset; I don't even know what an offset is.

2.I read it recently about I think it was a 215/35/17 corrects the speedometer so that is on point............is that correct?

3.What tire sizes would you recomend so that there will be no rubbing; maybe a little at full lock but thats it. I also need a little beefer tire cause there a couple of potholes so in case i hit one im not completely screwed.

Also just wanted to thank Alex Millen; got my putco grill fits like a beauty....I would defintely recomend getting a grill from this guy.....many thanks

1) I have the same offset with a 17"x7.5" wheel also from wheelmax. work fine no rubbing, however the front and rear offsets on the xb are different. I going to buy a set of 10mm. hub spacers this should give me an almost even space to the wheelwells.
2-3)I'm running 205/40/17 tires and I would recommend going for the 215/40/17 to give you a little more sidewall and a little softer ride. I've already bent two of my rims and had to replace them. also would recommend the road hazzard for your wheels and tires. Jersey has some bad roads!!!

You mean 205/45/17. 205 is the width of the tire, 45 is the sidewall height, and 17 is the diameter of the rim.

For a 17x7in rim, the recommended tire size is 205/40/17. This is as close as to the stock tire size as you can get. With a 42 offset, there should be no rubbing. You can go for a taller sidewall like 45, which is about a half inch taller than stock. There shouldn't be any rubbing there as well, but I would recommend test mounting a similar wheel first just in case.

I run 215/45/17 on 17x7.5/40 offset rims. No rubbing.

No.

in a 205/45/17 tire...
"205" is the section width. The width of the tire in millimeters from sidewall to sidewall. It does NOT indicate height.

"45" is the aspect ratio of height (sidewall) to width (section). In this case, sidewall height is 45 percent of the section width. Lower numbers mean shorter sidewall for improved response and handling. Higher numbers mean taller sidewall for more cushioning and ride quality.

"17" is the rim diameter. The diameter of the wheel in inches.

I stand corrected. however a 215/40/17 according to your formula would have a taller sidewall than a 205/40/17 because it's 40 percent of 215 not 205

It would also be a wider tire. If he doesn't want a wider tire but wants more sidewall he only needs to increase the aspect ratio, not the section width.

Running calculations and checking exact specifications by tire can help you make the perfect decision as to what tire to run on what size wheel for your desired results.
