Need help with new 15" rims and tires!
Hi guys, I am new to the forums here and new to scions period. I just got my scion XA last week and would like to put some nice rims on em. I h ave done quite a bit of research myself but I will leave the opinions to you experts here.
I would like to keep the 15" stock rim size only because it cuts the cost down on tires, plus the fact I dont like riding on steel . I was at my local sears and they had some pretty nice rims that they said would fit. But now that I found this site it looks like i have many more options. SO basically m y questions are.
If i keep my 15" size, what size tires can I put on the car. From what i was reading stock is of course 185/60 15. But i saw quite a few posts that people put 205/55/15 to keep the ratio. I would like a slightly wider tider only because I think it would look nicer with the rims. I am also unsure of the rim sizes, 15 x 6, 15x 6.5. I know its the width, but how do you know what size rim you need per the tire you want to install on it. Like if i went with the 205/55/15's what size rim would i need?
If you guys can lend me a hand, and point me in the direction of some places to get some rims online that would be fantastic.
BTW so far i love the ride. Its a 2006 Xa Indigio Blue Pearl 5 speed.
Thanks guys!

Just so you know the 205/55/15 mean 205 is the with 55 is the height 15 is the size rime you will need. if you are looking for rims in a 15 you will need to stick with the stock size to keep you odometer/speeddometer correct if this does not matter to you than go for the 205/55/15 the odometer/speedodmeter will be a little fast.

Thanks for the help. I do actually understand tire sizes, but what i wasnt 100% sure on is the rim size width, such as 15x6 15x6.5 15x7 etc etc. From what i read using a tire calculator if i go with the 205/55/15 at 60MPH my speed will actually be 60.3. I dont think thats to much of a big deal. But i need to understand how the rim width works. EX: can i fit the 205/55/15's on a 15x6.5 wheel? Or do i need a wider rim?

Welcome to ScionLife. Kind of new here too but I've learned a lot from these people already. I stuck with the 15"s for the same reason ($)! Got a set of rims from Sears on my first xB. They were Aeros made by American Raceing. I just got a set of 15" Rage Vigors from the site below.

Looks like 15 x 6.5 is the standard for most.
Are these rims any decent and the price?
I am not sure what brands and styles are good. Has been a long time since ive been out of the auto business.

I used the stock tires both times and both new rims were 15 X 6.5's. The link below is for, I hope, my new rims. The Rage Vigors in chrome. First time dealing with this company but would do it again. Fast service and good prices. You can call them up on the phone and get more info and order at the same time.

Cool nice rims. So what did you do buy the American racing first? And then buy the new rage rims awhile later???
How do the rims look with the stock tires?
Im trying to decide what color rim and style would look good on my Xa.
I like these.
http://www.wheelfire.com/scontent/Wh...ption=Standard
And these:

Comes in gunmetal also.. Not sure what would look better onteh car, Aluminium color or black. Or a mix.

205/55R15
205 is measuring the width in millimeters. Google 205mm to inches to figure out the closest width of rim.
55 is the tire height in percentage OF THE WIDTH. In this case, 205/55 means the tire height is 55% of 205mm which is 112.75mm.
So if you want "rim guard". 205/55 is 8.07 inches wide will be sufficient. But do the tire height calculations if you want to stay within speedometer corrections.
Here's a very good wheel tire calculator that does offset calculations too. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp?postId=906

195/60-15 is 1.99% taller than stock (about 1/2 inch)
205/55-15 is .58% taller than stock (about 1/8 inch)
2-3% difference in total height will not make an unacceptable change in speedo readings. The 195/60-15 is supposed to be a good option which will possibly help the ride because of the taller sidewall. The 205/55-15 is the closest you will find to stock total height. You will have the same sidewall height but this size is usually a high performance tire using harder rubber compounds and may stiffen the ride. Either way, both tires will fit on a 6.5 inch rim. I cannot speak to any rubbing issues you may have with the 205. I have put OTG spacers on the rear and expect no problems with the 205s. I will mount the tires and check the front for rubbing before I buy them. This will probably come very soon and I will post with any issues and what I decided on. If you buy the new rims and keep the stock tires they will work on the 6.5 inch rims with no problems
