Default Nexen verses Kumho Tires

Hi Everyone... After a blowout while travelling last week, I was forced to purchase the only tire the shop had in my size (I was 265 miles from home) which is 205-40 17. I have always had Kumho Ecsta AST on my 06 XB and aside from short treadlife have had great service with them. The day I had the two tires installed, I begin the trip home. Now when travelling at speeds of 70+ in some curves my VSC alert chimes and the light flashes. It is not a mechanical issue.. so has tob e tires.... Does anyone know anythign about nexen tires? they sold me 2 nexen n5000 which are on the rear of the car (and the rear of my box is all over the road now when travelling over 70).
Any reviews would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Default Decision was made for me

update on the Nexen N5000. They will NEVER be on a car I own again. With less than 700 miles on the tire, the sidewall blew out of it last night. I am not sure if it was just a bad tire or what, but put two Yoko's on the back that I had stored just in case (my size is special order only in this part of WV) drove the same road at the same and higher speeds that had my VSC Alarm going off with the Nexens and nothing. The car is driving fine again. I think maybe I just got bad tires, but not risking it again. So in two weeks I have now spent almost $925.00 on tires.

Anyone driving the new body XB? Its time for me to start thinking about trading in the next six months or so, and I need to start researching. I love my 06, and honestly hate the thought of trading it. I haven't heard much about performance etc with the xb since it was updated, and would appreciate any input anyone has.

Thanks for the replies on the tires.

i would imagine those nexens have some kind of waranty if the failed that fast. i had nexen 3000 on my 05 tc and other that road noise and tread life, they were alright. nothing i would buy again though. i bought nankang cheap a$$ tires for 70 a piece to replace all 4 corners and i put 2 screws in the same tire somehow and still managed to drive 200+ miles in a day without issue

Called the tire shop where I purchased the Nexens and the local shop that carries Nexen, they both say the performance tires aren't covered by any type of road hazard, and to bring the ires in and if they determine there is a "safety problem" with the tires they will give me two new nexens. I already ordered 4 new Kumho's, so i'm just out the money.... I guess it is an expensive learning experience.

i would think sidewall blowing out before a single rotation is a safety issue, a big one. i would just get the replacements if you can and either keep them for whatever reason or sell them yourself. with a little heads up of course to the buyer. hate to spend money like that just to watch it go down the drain, if i wanna ____ away money, ill go to the bar

Hey Belo.... just got back to my office after dropping off the two tires and they ordered me the two new N5000's. They said there was no way the tire should have blown the way it did after seeing the damage to the inside of both tires. The local shop said they would never have sold tires that had the damage these tires did..... I told them I wouldn't be running the nexens and they have arranged for one of their guys who runs he same size tires I do to purchase them from me. Only losing about 50 bucks this way....
The inside of the tires actually look like they have been driven on while flat. guess that explains the VSC alert... and poor ride and handling....

thats rough! im glad the shop stuck by their work though! as much as they could i guess. good thing you're only down 50 instead of the cost of both tires.

I've never heard of tires being so defective. I've been running kumhos exstacs all year, driving uP and down the mountain. They are some great rubber

I've never had a problem with Kumho's either, just short life span the way I drive..... It was the Nexen's that were the problem. The tech at the local shop that is buying the tires from me said he has ran Nexen N5000's for three years now with no trouble. He seems to think the shop in Virginia knew they were bad and stuck them on my car knowing i'd be out of the area and wouldn't hassle them..(just his hypsothesis)... who knows.. just glad to have the new Kumho's on the way.....
