I have aftermarket chrome rims and they have begun to have small pits on the surface. Does anyone have an Idea of how to get rid of these and how to prevent it?

Once chrome is pitted it is done. Either live with the putting or have the wheels stripped and re-chromed.

To avoid pitting in the future., don't buy chrome wheels.

 

if you have a local OSH, there's a liquid called Noxon. It is non abrasive and can remove and neutralize oxidation.

 

 

something happened during the chroming process, either it wasn't left in long enough, too long, or the metal wasn't properly primed and ready for chroming. The other part is being left open to the elements with poor washing and protecting techniques. They make a a chrome polish that can remove pits and neutralize as long as they are small. but if they are big... sorry. there are a bunch of manufacturers out there for this paste. it is a low abrasion with some chemicals in it, goes on like wax, and pretty much restores your wheels.

Some stuff:
S100 (buy at napa, or autozone)
Shining Monkey (fujiz.com get a discount)
Mothers Chrome Polish (K-mart, Autozone, Napa)
Mequiars (k-mart, autozone, napa) just like mothers, can't remember the name

But if you go to autozone, tell them your problem, they will bring you to the section with probably 5 or so different products that can help.

also talk to fujiz (he is a scionlifer) he will tell you shining monkey all the way, he might be able to look and see if the problem is fixable.
