Default Is it possible for the front calipers to hit the wheels?

Is it possible for the front calipers to hit the wheels? The reason I ask is that I just put some +40 wheels on my xB and it appears the caliper is extraordinarily close to the wheel. I didn't think it was that close before (although it was close.) My car has 10k on it and I figure the pads are a little worn down. When I go to replace them, am I going to hit? If so, will a spacer take care of this? I assume anything greater than 2mm would be fine to compensate the difference in the stock offset (+42) and mine.
