Size tire with an 18" wheel?
I know there is a topic for this but it is n te tC not xB. I am running 215/35 right now and these potholes are killing my tires. I need a bigger tire or I am going to have to give up the 18's. Anyone running 40, 45, or larger with no rub?

Erik,
I know people have run 40's on 18's - I'm sure 45's have also been run. but, you gotta give us more data to give you a proper answer. plus, there is a wheel setup thread in the tech section.
we need: rim width and offset, tire width, stance details, shims or no shims, etc...

Ok, you can say they are too large all you want but if someone can fit 20s on a box, you can fit a bigger tire than this on 18s. I understand there may be some cutting issues, that is not a problem. I will get the other specs requested. I appreciate the responses but telling someone there is nothing that can be done when there is, doesn't help.

We are trying to help you out by informing you what the PROPERLY sized tire is. If you don't appreciate the help, that is fine. If you choose to use an improperly sized tire, that is fine as well. But you have been warned. We told you what will work without modification, and what might require additional work. Chances are a 40 series at stock height will rub, depending on your wheels. And without a doubt you will have rubbing issues on a 45 series 18.
And just because people run 20s doesn't mean they don't have rubbing issues, or that the tires are sized appropriately. Hell, if all we were talking about was "making it work," I could lay the xB out on 22s. And if all I wanted it to do was roll, I could make 26"+ work. It is all a matter of how far you want to go to make it work.

Im running 225/40/18 and my wheel is a 45 offset and when i was stock height I was rubbing on turns and bumps.(slightly though)
When I carried 4 people including myself I was rubbing on every turn and bump.
Now I just dropped the ride on TRD Springs because if I went lower, I would need to change my tires and rims
Im going to get the OTG 10mm Shims to see if my offset will help the rubbing.
If it doesnt then I will have to go to 17 inch rims
I hope that the shims help( crossing fingers)
Good Luck with whatever you do.
take it from these guys they know

I am currently running with a set of Limited Wheels style 507. It's a 18x7.5 wheel. I currently have the 215/35's as well. I am needing a set of replacement tires and I too was wanting to go to a bigger side wall tire. These potholes are brutal. So you guys think I'm stuck with the 215/35 or could I go bigger? I don't mind if it rubs at full lock or something like that, but I don't want constant rubbing issues. (by the way, I'm the only one who rides in it, so the weight of others is not an issue)

you can go bigger but you are more likely to rub and your car will have slower acceleration , longer stopping distaces , look less attractive , as well as read an incorrect speedometer speed.

hotbox05 is right - except for the less attractive, that's subjective - SignalxB had some 18" JLines w/ 40's and it looked damn sweet. he probably rubbed, but his ride was anything but "less attractive".
go easy on him, guys. I don't recall Erik saying anything about not wanting to do further work to eliminate rubbing, or being worried about what his speedo is reading - he simply asked if anyone is running 40's or 45's and do they have rubbing issues.
I ran 18"x7.5" +45 on 215/18/35 on Goldline (2" drop) springs and never rubbed and never felt like the ride was rough, even when I'd hit a pothole. I added the OTG spacers and never rubbed.
speaking of that - Xmanjr, if you're rubbing w/o OTG spacers, you're gonna rub even more w/ them. there's no way you're rubbing on the inside of your tire; it's gotta be on the outside where some part of the fender is rubbing. OTG shims are only going to push you wheels out further to your fender. get the shims (they're awesome) but get your fenders rolled as well.

my set up is 18x7.5....with a 40mm offset.....I'm not sure what the offset has to do with but I still want to go with a taller tire. Even if the speedo is off, looks worse, etc.....these 215/35 tires are killing me. I typically drive about 6 hours a day in the thing.....(its my company vehicle), so I have to be able to absorb impacts easier. What do you guys think?

Im not quite sure where im rubbing, inside or out.
Is there anyway to really tell?

If you really just have to have a larger tire on an 18x7.5, go with a 225/35/15. It isn't a huge jump, but it can help. You are going from a (calculated) 2.96" sidewall to a 3.10" sidewall. Like I said, not much difference, but noticeable. And the 225 isn't too wide for the 7.5" wheel.

225 - 215 - whatever it takes...
I don't know what the height in inches is for a 215/ 40, but I have a pic. I don't think too many people out there would think this is less attractive. this is one hot box. it doesn't look like this now, but it once did:
I'm sure it looks even better today.
