Can anyone recommend a good brand of snow tire for my 2005 xA?

We're getting socked with snow here in New England. I have a long uphill drive way to the garage and a very steep hill to climb. Right now I have some sort of Japanese brand tires that came with this used car purchase (I can't remember) and this is my second winter in the new house. I can't get up the hill on approach to my house without slipping and sliding. Plus, I live in the foothills of Western Massachusetts, so anywhere I go there are up hills and down hills.

I'm looking for real winter tires, not all seasonals. It's so bad here I'm willing to swap them out every year.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've been driving on Hankook Winter IPikes and I have to say I have no issue with traction. They're studdable too but I don't have studs to use.

I know you said no all seasons but I used to swap out my tires for winter tires every year except for this year. This past summer I put Hankook Optimo H727 and they are almost as good as my Blizzaks. I have no problems with these tires yet in snow as deep as 8 inches. Just a thought.

i have the altimax artic tires and they have been fantastic this winter in boston..i got them used for $100 a set! tirerack has them cheap too.

After doing research on this I will be doing the Blizzak or Ipike tires for next winter !!

Thats what im doing my self, im getting new tires for my wheels and then i will buy winter tires to put on the steelies and swap once winter time comes around.

Blizzaks. They're on my list for next winter. My OEMs are still good and are good enough even for Chicago winters, no need to waste the tires.

Just another recommendation for the IPikes. I have them on my Yaris and they're great. Mine are studded, too.
