Hi Everybody,
While I really, really like my 2005 Scion xB, I am most unhappy with the performance of my regular tires - Toyo Extensa A/S (195/60/15) - in the snow here in CT.

The contact and control of the front tires in the snow is...
- "iffy" at best, and
- "scary" (normally) at worst.

Therefore, for some reason, I feel the need to get snow tires for this season.

It looks as though the recommended Tire size is a 185/65/14.
- This would obviously require getting a new set of steel wheel rims in 14x6.

If you have done this "Minus 1" change, would you please comment on your experience with your snow tires?

Pirelli P4 and I used them last year and were night and day better than the stock goodyear factory tires plus I went up in size to 65/16 instead of the 60 series and it fits the wheel well closer without rubbing. Tire rack for around $65 each and they are quieter than the original tires too.

Just curious, who suggested going to a 14" tire/wheel combo? The tire would be about 3/4" shorter than your current size tire. Stay with the factory P185/60R15 or even a P185/65R15 size tire. I always tried to have my winter tires mounted on extra wheels. When the snow started to fly I could just install them myself in my garage. No waiting in line at the local tire shop to have them installed. Give Discount Tires website a look.
