Default Alcantra steering wheel??

has anyone "rewrapped" their steering wheel with Alcantra (or similiar)?? I saw a pic of this done to a Merc AMG recently and I want to do this to both of my vehicles, but wanted to see if anyone has already done this to their xb? Is it even possible, and if so does anyone know of a local shop in Phx AZ that might be able to do it?? thanks for any help...

OK, so has anyone just replaced their steering wheel with a race version w/ alcantra? If so where did you purchase it from?

Not wanting to rain on your parade but alcantara does show wear easily. I work at a BMW dealership and some of the M3's and 330 performance packages have alcantara wheels and the most recent one I moved had about 30k miles on it and the wheel looked decently chewed up. I'm sure there are ways to prevent this from happening, I just havent looked into them. But if thats what you want to do, I say go for it. Its a sweet fabric that will add a nice touch to any interior. I guess I'm kindof partial to things that last a long time and look good instead of just one or the other. Good luck with your search.

thanks for that bit of info. My friend just purchased a new M3 and it has that in it, and I loved the way it felt. But, in reading what you are saying I might hold off on the xb since I will be driving it all the time and just put it in the amg since it will have much fewer miles... good food for thought!

I'll agree with you on the feel part, they are soo damn nice. I don't know if wearing driving gloves would help reduce the wear or not. Also, it seemed like a lot of the wear was at the top of the wheel, maybe someone will make them with alcantara sides kind of like the Two-tone wheels Scion offers. Or, I duno maybe find an alcantara cover that could be popped on and off whenever you wanted. Just some more ideas I have.
