Hey folks,
Anyone install Blue BatMobile's xA Redout kit? I did one side, and it looks real bad. The surface of the taillight is contour and the overlay is flat. There are a ton of creases. I was thinking of x-acto knifing it, but I want to know what Andy has to say..as well as if anyone of you have install them.

peel it off immediatley.. make a mixture of almost 99% water with a few drops of dish washing soap..
spray it on the sticky side.. smack it on.. smooth it out and let it dry
and keep smoothing it out, using a hairdryer if needed..

mines have ZERO creases, zero bubbles, it looks like i candied it..

 

yea, i TRIED to install them... i pointed that out to him... you can't stick something flat on something round. i tried his smoked sidemarkers also, it only smokes the front, around the edges you can see bright orange when it's on. I ended up smoking my sidemarkers with paint and the tail lights I was thinking of having Nish do them, but kind of expensive just to red them out. Someone will eventually come out with new taillights for the xA. Don't get me wrong, I like Andy's idea, he uses top quality stuff, but you just can't fit something flat over something round.... maybe we both did it wrong? Don't see how two people can get it wrong though. Anyways to red out you'd be better off getting red transparent paint and mask everything except for the bubble off and paint it, sand it, clear it, sand it... it'd come out cleaner looking.
I like that red out vinyl he uses... really matches like a charm, just doesn't fit like one.

Kind of sucks trying to fit it and get the creases in it. You can't get the wrinkles out once they're made, and you can only stick that thing once, feels like a waste of money... even though it was only a few bucks for the kit. Maybe he'll post on how to do it correctly. :D

I think he has an xB, though... xBs (and Celicas...friend has the taillight redouts for his celica...he kept saying "mine are fine..."..wanted to smack him) are flat...not convex


I got an email from Andy. He said to apply them using a heatgun/hair dryer... I hate living in an apartment, no outlets close to the parking lot. I'll have to install them back at my parents house. Gonna order his eyelids...he's gonna hook me up with another redout. Hopefully I can get them before I leave to come back here.

 

oh, yea, well an xb changes all that. i was thinking i tried that but wasn't sure. anyways, i didn't get them to fit.

 

you can try using a hair dryer on it if it doesn't come off real easy. the hair dryer will soften the material to smooth it out. usuing soap and water is the correct way.

 

it seems so easy to do but rilly isnt. i tried bluebatmobile kit w/o the blow dryer/heat gun but did use soap and water. even though the xb is mostly flat, the curved sides are so hard to do. im gonna spray them this weekend. ill post pics of how those show up

 

i took off my brake lights, cleaned them then used rubbing alochol.. then i started.

i suggest u take ur time, i did it on the first try and it was beautiful, its more of a custom make it on ur car deal, if it was 'step by step' we'd all have the same damn thing..

i dunno, its not too hard, take it to a tint shop and ask them to do it for u.

 

You think those were hard. The full smoke kit I did for the 350z and Matrix were a b*tch. Lots of curves to deal with, but ya, a hair dryer will make the vinyl much more pliable and allow it to stretch a bit.

You should really mention the hairdryer in the instructions...

I sort of ____ed up my turn signals, i'm going to order another set so they're perfect.
