Got a wild hair up my ___ and decided to paint my headlights black....

Turned out to be a pretty fun project....










I will post the finish project tomorrow with the better camera and not the camera phone...

nice, but hows the reflection down the street?

 

its looks ok. Little softer than stock but the fogs fill in for that...only thing I need to do now is wire the fogs to stay on with the brights and it will be golden.

 

I'm sure I missed something since I've only had my Scion for a couple of days but...

Did you just paint the headlight reflectors black???

How does this affect light output, road visibility, and cut off lines?

what headlight bulb are you running? i like the output on it ...

 

Lumanics Titanium is the headlight bulb and then there yellow bulbs in the fogs, and the silver star Amber lights for the turn signals.

 

Are you leaving the high beams on? Is that why you want the fog lights on with the high beams? the high beams put out a light that is higher and would blind everyone but maybe since you painted your reflectors black they don't shine high anymore. this project seems to have a lot of reasons why it wouldn't work very good could you explain how you overcame these problems and also if you considereed using a gunmetal type paint that would be black but highly reflective. it would be cool to do this on a car with like a red or yellow of the type of spray paint that looks like powder coated stuff.

nice way to be unique and I think it looks pretty cool when the lights are off but I'm not so sure if it will work very good as headlights but who really needs headlights to light the road in front of them as long as they look good (the jury is still out)

 

No I drive with normal lights on in the city, I want to have the fogs be able to come on as I choose, lights on or not. So I need to re-wire them.

Hahaha, yeah your side came out better...it was weird seeing the different lines on the headlights.

It seems to me that the black paint would absorb ALOT of heat and cause problems.

 

I've had no problems after 6 months or so, some reduction in light output (but I will be rectifying that soon.) Well worth the aesthetic benefit

 

just re-wired the fogs to be able to stay on while the lights are off...
