Which Bra for XB
Ok, I noticed on a friends instructions with the bra he got from the dealer (original Scion part that covers the hood only) that you cannot leave it on if it rains and have to leave it off if it is wet. Ok, that is fine if you are willing to stop in the middle of a downpour on a roadtrip and remove it and then let the bugs and rocks attack you till it is safe to put it on again.
To me , that really sucks and is not worth it.
Ok, so, I do want to get the bra, do not want the 3M stuff because I have seen that stuff after a couple of years and where some of them looked good, others I saw got knicked and scuffed and rough too.
I am thinking, LeBra, Colgan or Wolf. I want the "full bra" and want the one that does the best at
1. latching securely and easy to put on and remove.
2. Can leave it on when wet or through rainstorms and it will dry fine without harming the paint in any way...in other words....."breathable''''.
3. Offers a fabric that will not fry the paint and will not "scratch" the car by just simply having it on or putting it on.
For those of you with much knowledge on this, please let me know. I need the best all around performer. They are all between 89.00 and 109.00 and so money is not the real decision maker on this since that is about the same price range.
I still cant believe the Scion bra has to be removed if you encounter a rainstorm. What good is that?.....Rocks still fly in the rain!
-Peace

I really like my Scion bra and use it all the time on road trips. It goes on and off really quickly.

Go with a Colgan - you won't be sorry. My Colgan was on the car all winter, never came off. Took it off 2 weeks ago (1st time since last November) to prep the car for Scion-palooze in Providence last weekend. The nose on my white xB is perfect. LeBra & Wolf bras will move aroung at freeway speeds so anything between the bra and the paint will grind into the paint. The Colgan doesn't move.
I have found the factory bra's to be the best. The problem with leaving it on wet is that is can cause the clear coat to fog. Also remember that sun fades your paint so if you don't take it off for a long time you can see the color difference. LeBra or Wolf NO!!!!

Just got my Colgan and I love it. Also if you don't want the fog light holes, they can stitch in material to cover them. It cost me 10 bucks extra, big woop. Also only put it on for long road trips. The longer it is on, the more crap that gets under it and could possibly scratch the paint. Also, what DisneybB said. Don't let it sit for extended periods in the sun.
Why not get off your A** , and Every Once in a While....TAKE IT OFF !
There is NO Bra that you can leave on a car , FOREVER and not have some paint damage .
Do you let your car have Water SPOTS , and NOT remove them ? Do you let the BOX have Dirt and Grit on it , and then RUB that dirt INTO the paint ?
If your Hand STAYS WET for a long time , YOU PRUNE UP !
No Problem driving in the rain with it , Just TAKE it OFF to DRY . Then DONT put it back on a FILTHY car .
Its ALL COMMON SENSE , A CLEAN BOX and a LITTLE EFFORT.

Yeah Im sure it is easier out here . But there is a lot of construction , Everywhere out here . So we deal with little pebbles that are "kicked" up by ALL the Mother driven
"City Streets ONLY" 4X4 SUV`s . So we have OUR own set of Problems here .
But I still say :
*a GOOD rule of thumb , If its WET - Take it off to dry .
*Another is , If the Car is DIRTY - You wouldnt try to get the DIRT off the BOX with a DRY towel ONLY , it might SCRATCH the paint . SO , Dont put the BRA on a DIRTY car .
*And Last , KEEP the BRA CLEAN . Sometimes STUFF can get between the Bra and Car , and can Stick to the BRA , which could SCRATCH the paint .
These 3 RULES should work IN ANY STATE
A lot of Prayer , and a Coat of WAX too
I have SCION`s Carbon Fiber Half BRA from Thompson Toyota in PA . In my Profile , the 3rd picture shows it . Its EXTREMELY easy to put on and off .

May I make a suggestion. Why take a bra on and off when you can get a clear bra that will look better and do a better job of protecting and maintaining your box for years to come.
All three of these are done

Look right above the turn signal to see it.

Guaranteed for life for cracking, fading and/or yellowing with a clear coat finish that can be waxed.
Just a suggestion for you folks.

First - Make sure not to run the wax up the edge of the film otherwise you have to clean it out.
Second - If you do get wax in there take microfiber towel and some rubbing alcohol under cool conditions. You can then lightly clean the edges out and then rinse with water. Your are done

I know how to clean it and detail it. The clear film is still too noticable for my liking. Even if it didn't have the hazy?cloudy look to it. It would prolly be invisable on a white car but on a dark color it is highly visable. sorry
And I would NOT want to put Rubbing Alchahol on the paint !
Jethro,
It is all good. I understand. Sounds like maybe you used the 14 mil film? The reason why I say that is you mentioned cloudy and hazy. That film does not have a high clear coat finish to it and is noticeable.
We use a 8 mil clear coated finish urethane film which is totally different then what you see on the rear bumper tops or what Scion offers from the dealer.
Can you see it on this car. Full kit with blue headlight film from yesterday?

Let me see if I can answer your questions for you.
The 3M ScotchCal film we use has been out since 1992 and been tested on 100,000's of cars so it works. Yes it can ben removed but not reused. I have never removed it for no reason, just cars that have been wrecked and going to the bodyshop.
Sure on a darker color car problems show up closer. I had 55,000 on my truck (Dark Purple) and 77,000 on my car (Dark Blue) and you couldnt tell at all. That is how we landed two dealers at trade in to show how great it looks.
Dirt and wax will not lift the corners. You can go through the power car wash if you. If you are one foot away sure you will see it, but from five feet away or driving behind a semi and hearing rocks hit the front of your car you will be happy it is there.
Rubbing alcohol is totally SAFE for your car. I have been installing and selling for six years and never had a problem with using it on the paint.
One more for giggles

Feel free to read some feedback from local customers that have had their kits installed and what they think about it.

If we can help answer any other questions please let us know. I would be glad to help.

PS. This product is not for everyone and we are okay with that.

I did the Rockblocker.
I do not see it unless I look for it and have had no one notice it until I pointed it out to them.
I'm not a fan of old-fashioned bras or the grit they seem to trap against my paint.
Hasta!!!

That stuff looks pretty good. Only thing is you cant cover the edges and that is where most of my chips are happening. My Colagan bra only goes on clean and doesn't stay on any longer than the trip each way.
