Has anyone done the red out tails and then put a smoke overlay on them? I think this would look incredible. I plan to one day red out my tails, but it's way too humid to paint now.

There's a few threads on this subject. Some used the oven method, others don't. Do a search for redout.

So you used Krylon stained class paint in red instead of VHT Red Metal Tint or Testor's Candy Red Spray Paint as others have done? How did you get that darker red border?
I guess I got lucky. It's 3 coats of paint, no other prep done or magic involved.

Oh, so you used a hair dryer instead of an oven? Does that get it warm enough? (Apparently it does)

And to conferm my previous question, you used Krylon stained glass paint? Did you get it online or at your local store?

Yep, hairdryer pointed at each tab for about 30 seconds, then wedged the knife in. What you want heated is the grey housing, more than the lens. There's a tutorial out that uses jewelers screwdrivers, but the shafts are huge compared to a flat knife.

And yes, Krylon Stained Glass spray paint. I picked it up locally. You'll probably have better luck getting it at a craft store (I got mine at Michael's) rather than Home Depot or Lowe's.

walmart has house of color candy paint by the models you could try that to its made for plastic. I would think that would work better than the staind glass stuff.

If you red them first and then black them out you will get very little light from them. Do only one or the other but def. not both!

I meant more along the lines of spraying the inside of the lenses with the red paint, and then getting one of the gray overlays from BlueBatmobile. Like the 3/10 gray or whatever the light one is.

Would it still be too dark?

If they came RED, you would want a kit to make them CLEAR!

if you want to smoke them out they are already red on the inside.. just put the overlay on.. if you paint anymore it will be too thick and no light will come thru.. that would be dangerous.
