Clear bug deflector gleems, COOL effect... Photos UP
I got a CLEAR bug deflector because I have a Polar White XB. They say that you can paint the back of it, but I installed it clear. When the lights are on, at night, light goes into the clear part and gets transmitted up to the top, upward facing edge only. The amber parking lights are enough to make a glow (not reflected) on the top of the bug deflector. It is hard to describe, but it looks like a lighted ornament at night, it is SO COOL. I will try to take a picture of this strange effect. I will post it here if I can. In the daylight, the clear bug deflector is almost invisible and not noticed from 10 feet away. AND, it works! NO bug hits in 1000 miles over 10 days, just pollen and dew to clean off. Note: I drive normal speeds, near the limit on streets and within 10mph over limit on highways. At 85mph I would not expect it to work, but I don't know. $65 shipped from autowharehouse.

Effectiveness update...
Yes, the effect is there. One of those photos is from the outside.
But, with the lights on, you cannot take a photo, too much light.
See the photo from the side.
Update on effectivness... I did take some bug hits OVER 75MPH, but only on the top half of the windshield. This is a great incentive to watch my speed. I had to cruse 95 to N.C. (to visit mom) and crused with traffic at up to 80MPH.

hmmm.. you know. that's a conductor of light. if we could purify it so there was near 0 loss and stretch it out really far.. just think of the possiblities. We could send digitized data across it! light on mean 1 off == 0! Ah... the possibilities.

It is almost invisible in daylight. See how invisible in thread called Towing massive quantities/PHOTOS/Pepsi in General XB.

It won't save the world, but it will protect the front of the hood area that it covers. Install this before you get chips and dings on your hood. Sure, a rock will hit this and deflect it away. Some places call this item a bug and rock deflector. With a blue box, clear would be best.

Simple attachment. 4 body fasteners (provided) go through the clear bug deflector and into the 4 holes that are already in the hood. Just push in the center and it flares and holds the light deflector in place. Because it is clear, you can see if the holes line up with the deflector. It should take less than 10 minutes. A philips head driver can remove the fasteners.

Clear Bug Deflector
Yes I am sure. I have one, I paid for it so I am sure. Here is the link, it is the second one down. They show a smoke colored one but they describe it as clear and it is. I guess they do not have a picture of a clear one.
