Cracked windshield.
So I'm driving today. On the feeder road, about to get on the insterstate, when all of a sudden a rock flies out of the dump truck in front of me (with a bed thats not covered btw). chips my windshield. then proceeds to crack about a foot long. as i've watched it progress its now another couple of inches more. since its going to be freezing tonight and all the glass companies are closed for the weekend, i'm expecting to come home to a very large crack in my windshield. however, I was able to get the name of the company and their phone number and have called several times. the vehicle had no front or back plates and he was moving too fast for me to get the USDOT number. but i notated the time, date, location and all that good stuff so when i talk to the owner i have all the specifics. so far i have called twice and talked to someone who said to call back at 5 when he is there. hopefully i can get this paid for, otherwise i'm gonna have a crack in my windshield til probably march. whats an approximate price to have the front windshield replaced on the xb?
Mthis happened to me in my 06 xB 11k miles ,and I took it by the dealer where I bought it and the service manager said and I quote "this isnt really covered under warranty but we'll take care of it" I droped it off the next day and whalla they took care of it
dealer is StoneMountain Toyota/Scion in Ga
Service Manager name is Vince or Vance
dunno if this help?????

I have a giant crack in my windshield from a truck, I'm out like $50 for the deductable. Though my windshield is so pitted and has so many little cracks in it, it would've had to be replaced before it was inspected anyways.
I dont really feel like going downstairs and out in the rain to get the paperwork out of the box but I think it was around $800.00 billed to my insurance company but all I had to pay was the deductable. If you have State Farm glass claims will not make your premium go up. The same thing pretty much happened to me when mine had less than 1000 miles on it. Big stupid state dump truck coming the other direction and a rock flew right into the glass. Then 3 days after it was replaced it developed a stress crack and the glass company had to replace it again on thier dime. Be sure to tell the insurance company AND the glass shop that you want OEM glass. If you do not specify they will put aftermarket glass in and they do not have to ask. Its up to you to tell them.
wow. i've called around and the cheapest i could find was $281. whats the difference between oem glass and whatever glass they choose to use? is the oem glass gonna be more expensive? and i've talked to my insurance which doesn't do glass replacement, so i would have to pay the $500 deductible if i needed to get it replaced and it cost more than the deductible.
Ah--another cracked windshield thread. Here is a quote from Tomas about a better grade of windshield--but alas it too fell victim to a rock:

I've only lost one xB windshield on the highway, but there is absolutely nothing I could have done about that one - a medium size rock was thrown off the top of a rear wheel of an oncoming truck running without a trailer. Combined speeds put that rock's impact with my windshield at about 210 MPH - it shattered BOTH layers of glass.
The biggest problem with so many xB windshields getting damaged is it is a large, nearly verticle windshield, close to the ground, and with a very short hood to shield it from road debris. Some of the after-market glass (notably "Fuyao") appears to be a bit thicker/stronger than OEM, but even it will fail if hit hard enough (my windshield above was a Fuyao...).
It's just something we have to live with, herding a box.

dang that sucks. this is my first windshield to have replaced. when i talked to my dealership he told me when i got it fixed to come see him because they are now offering windshield replacement warranties..he said i could get the windshield replaced every week if i had to. but alas, i don't have the money and am wondering if i should replace this windshield, just to maybe replace it down the road? oh well, thanks for all the info guys.
one more question: if i let the glass place use whatever glass they want, how much more likely am i to be replacing it in a few months?
