Default Help My HID's :)

hi, i just ordered some HID's and i have them installed. for the most part i think i got them connected right. i went to test them to see if they would turn on. but they did not. does anyone know what could be the reason why? i went back and made sure everything was secure. but...i still am coming up short and they are not turning on.

already did a search and came up with nothing.

i mounted my ballest on some nylon. i have the McCulloch 10000K H.I.D. wich has a metal ballest when it touched the frame it would eather turn on and not turn off or it would do nothing and some times just blew the fuse. after mounting on some nylon or somthin not metal it worked great. check your fuse to mite have blown it.

so maybe because the ballast are touching metal to metal. it could cause the hid to not run? i haven't mounted the ballast they are sitting on the metal frame. if i mount it to some velcro. against the frame will it be okay or do i have to find something non metal to mount it on? or just make sure it's not physically touching metal to metal?

do you have a pic of your setup?

check your fuse and set the ballest on some cardboard or somthing like that and try turning it and see if it turns the lights on. DONT LET THE METAL BALLEST TOUCH THE FRAME. I would not recomend useing velcro. mounting the ballest seems to be the hardes thing in the hole upgrade. I think that fuse is under the hood by the battery

can i test the old lightbulb to test the fuse to make sure my fuse is not blown? i'll try putting it on some cardboard first thought to see if it works. what if i've already tried turning it on. having the ballast touch metal to metal? have i damaged anything?

yes you could do that to test the fuse. if metal to metal i think all you could have done was blow the fuse

EZ-BAKED, you got a bad ballast. I have mine mounted directly on metal with no problems.

ayS how did you wire them in? are you running the power off the wiring harness or through a relay?

Um, ballasts can touch metal. They don't short the system out. If you look at some kits (like mine), they have metal bracket they slide into and then mount where ever. I have mine mounted right behind my steel front bumper re-enforcement and never had a problem. Make sure you have the ground hooked up and the power lead connected. Other than that, unless you never connected your stock harness to the new one, you should be good to go.

the set that clifford is selling comes with a wiring harness with a relay.

basically what you need to do is run the power and ground wires to the battery, then the stock wiring plug on the drivers side plugs into the hid kit. That is what tells the ballast to turn on.

hope that helps.

by the way I bought 2 kits from clifford and they work great!

your high beams get power from the oem harness, you are not getting power to the ballasts. You either don't have the harness wired correctly or a connection between the oem harness or to the hids is wrong.

I can't believe you are having such a hard time. once I mounted the ballasts it took like 5 minutes to plug everything else in.

Did you look at the installation write up that cliff posted?
