Default Led in Headlight question

i currently have a single blue led in each headlight, i really like how it looks but i want to bump up the light output and also change it to orange so joe cop down the street will stop harassing me. and ideas on a good way to do it? i currently have the single led mounted in the little square hole right beside the bulb. Thanks for everything!

when you drill the hole how do you mount them? did you seal it with some silicone or something also? yeah the police in greenville and travelers rest have been on my case quite a bit, they even were questioning the ones in the headlights because since i had a switch i could flash them. and by being able to flash them i was trying to impersonate them. if somebody thought they could flip a switch quick enough to make an led look like a strobe i would like to meet them. they really do make them differently around here. I work in asheville and they havent really said anything.

lol, the good ol' south.......................... the kit came with a rubber pc around the LED, and i also used lots of silicone, when i first put'em in i only used silicone around the LED, but after a good heavy rain my head lights fog'd up real bad. so i filled the hole in the back of the head light to keep anymore water from getting in, so far it's worked out great.

the light is like 2 parts an outer shell and an inner, you want to cut into the outer part ( about 1 " sq ) so you can fit your LED and a finger in, and then drill the inner part i think mine was a 3/8 hole.

oh okay i see. and you put in three leds in the same position or in different spots? is the light output a lot more noticeable than just the single one? thanks!

don't cut or drill anything! You don't need to, you just need a brighter LED. I got these from Fry's Electronics, but you probably don't have one near you. These are 10,000 mcd brightness, 5V 100mA LED's. They are going to cost $2-3 each as opposed to the $0.25 or so that you probably paid for regular LED's. I know they make red, white, green, and blue this bright, but I don't know about other colors. I soldered a 200ohm resistor in series with the LED and jammed it in the little square hole.

thats a good thought for sure, did you get 3mm or 5mm? im not sure what size i have in there now, i just want to make sure they will fit in that little hole. i just checked and the orange i am using are 2000 mcd so if i could get 10000 it would be awesome. if anybody knows of any led me know!

I used 5mm and it fits with no problem. The really beight LED's have more of a focused output, so I sanded the tip flat. Where you aim the LED also makes a difference.

Here's the brightest orange I could find from the place I normally order from. It's 6500 mcd so it should be pretty bright.

The only problem I can see is they are bigger. It says they need a 3/8" hole for mounting. They're probably really bright.
