Default Need help installing fab wing!!!

Okay so I'm pressed for time here folks and I need some help...

I have a fab wing... It's in the process of being painted. I saw a DIY on making the C-clamps and I've heard you use those with mounting tape to stick the wing on. However... I also heard you need to dig out a hole in the wing that the clamp will fit into... where do I dig this (pics anyone?) and also should I fit the wing/make this hole before I paint it?

All tips are welcome. Thanks in advance

You can just use 3M automotive molding tape. Get the heavy duty stuff and prep both sides with alcohol. Should be fine.

And it's really not going to fly off on the highway or after a bad bump when its only held on with tape? I'm nervous about that lol

If you prep it enough it should be fine. Put it on when it's above 65 outside and it is at 95% strength after it cures for 24 hours. You should be able to tell how strong the bond is.

NICE!!!! Thanks. I still need to find out how the clamps work but I feel a bit more comforted knowing tape alone isn't too bad.

and also use a heatgun to heat the tape up before adhering it.

I put an ebay CF spoiler on my boys 1st gen with that tape. He hung on the wing (hes 165lbs) and it didnt budge.

Wow for real? Ok that's assuring info lol. I'll look for that tape at home depot. Thanks!!! I'm still going to attempt to make those c clamps though. If I tape on the wing can I add the clamps at a later time?

Yea, I just recently put my spoiler back on and I used the tape. If I push up on the wing, I can lift the car.

Default ...Clips and tape.....

I also installed the FAB wing. Once you size up the clip to the hole in the wing, you will see if you need to expand the hole in the wing to allow the clip to fit it. Use a round file by hand to open the hole from this long _____ to this long _______ so clip will fit into it.
After install, cover this hole with body colored tape and the clip will be hidden.

As for the tape, size it up before hand, learn from my mistakes. See the gap between the tape and the wing in this photo:

You might as well be sure to apply tape to where it can stick to both the wing and the hatch. Use thicker tape if needed. It should end up looking like this:

Good luck and post photos.

^^ good info. Thing is I don't have holes in the wing to begin with. I'm probably going to end up using the 3m tape... then once I can get c-clamps I'll see if I can put them on. If everyone says only tape will do the job then I'll get my heat gun, say a prayer and go lol.

How do u eliminate the gap from the tape?

Default ...OH....

Short answer: depends on how good the wing fitment is.

OH.. no holes in the wing at all.... Well everyone seems to say that a good application of the tape is all you should need. Now, how to know where to tape for best contact and strongest results?

Witch FAB style wing did you buy?
Did you get clips with it but it has no holes for the clips?
Did you get tape with it? If so buy more tape. That 5lb. 3M tape sounds right.

Line it up on the hatch. For sure, tape the entire front of the wing, nearest to the hatch hinge opening. See if your wing has a gap on the underside as shown in the photo above.
In any case, tape every contact point possible. Use chalk on the wing and size it up on the hatch. See where the chalk leaves residue on the hatch. Mark it, one inch away, with painters tape and clean the surface well before taping. Clean both the hatch and the wing. Have two buddies there to help you hold the wing. That is what I needed, two guys.
You could also drill holes for the clips if you want both tape and clips.
You would need at least a photo of where it clips onto the hatch. I don't have one right now, and my clip is covered with tape.
It is on the roof surface of the hatch.
One the left and right side, about one inch behinh the hinge gap.

Does anyone have a photo of the clips or holes?

Dont go to home depot for the tape. go to Pepboys or Autozone, or Advanced auto or something. The tape is gray with a red backing that peeels off. Try and get the .5 or .75 inch variety. put it on every part of the wing that touches the car.

Thanks.....Those are home made body color tape eyebrows. I was attempting to see how I liked the look. I liked it until it failed inspection by the dealer who sold me the car.
"Tape on the headlights" is the reason they gave.
Now we wait for FAB WING photos from sbkob2447.............

Lmaooo @ "tape on the headlights"

I taped the wing and that thing definitley stuck on there. However before the strength got to be too much I took it off because the paint design didnt make me happy so I'm going to repaint it before sticking it back on. Here's what the xBizzle looks like so far. Kit still needs to be buffed and shined up but whatever I put it on. Thanks for the wing help guys, I learned a lot
