Paint question
For those of you that have painted interior parts or exterior parts to match the body paint did you take that to the dealer's body shop and have that done or did you buy the actual paint with the correct paint code and everything and either you or someone else do it. if so how much was the paint or would it depend on the color and what not. Thanks

I paint the interior parts for the scion crowd here in az. I use auto paint and spray it from a hvlp spray gun. The cost does vary between colors, use the color code and you will get a good match. Its almost impossible to get it 100% matched because of the different batch of paint and the thin coats the factory puts on compared to what someone else would spray on. If you buy it in small quantities, the color would be about 20.00 for a pint of low cost base color, 20.00 for the reducer and close to 50.00 for a quart of clear with hardener. So if you figure 100.00 for materials, you can paint quite a few interior pieces and under hood parts.
Hope this helps, if you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask. Chris

I have done both methods. I painted a few small things my self with a rattle can filled with the car paint and have had my doors painted at a bodyshop. For a spraycan of paint your looking at about $15
I have a compressor and paint guns, so I paint my own cars. Access to a paint booth is the only problem I have with bigger paint jobs. However, given the very reasonable cost of having a shop do it (if you do the primering and sanding) it's well worth what they charge to shoot the paint if you aren't comfortable with painting larger parts.
