I see hot box you put it more forward though Ive seen the crossbars farther back and I think they both look nice.

oh what distance do the cross bars need to be from eachother. Just got the rack and want to put it on
i put mine 10 inches from the windscreen.

i think you can't put it closer than that because the clamps won't go on right.

and the distance between the front and rear crossbars depend on what you put on it.

i have a basket case basket and my crossbars around about 40 inches apart, i think
Yup, what BloodySUnday said is right.

I put mine forward because I have a sunroof, so i need clearance to open it.
Because I use both bike mount and snowboard mount attachments, I set the distance between the crossbars at a distance that is good enough for both mounts, without having to re-adjust the crossbars each time I change.

Also, with the mounts more to the front, it makes it easier for me to put the bikes on.

Hope that makes sense.

wouldn't recommend a load warrior.

i mean, you can, but in my opnion, it's too HUGE for the xb. the basket case is cool because it's light and low profile.

i held 2 air mattress', 4 sleeping bags, 2 sleeping mats and a couple pillows inside of a "Bell" Top Carrier bag on top of the basket case, tied down with yakima basket case stretch net - which is a net with bungee cord like hooks. held all my gear really well going 80mph and through the mountains. didn't worry about my stuff at all.

I've never used any basket or other carriers on my XB yet... but it sounds like it could carry a load of stuff!

such an awesome accessory to have. if you surf or go in the water a lot you can use it to store your wet gear

Bump !!!

I am finally getting around to purchasing a Yakima roof rack. I came here to see if there was a downside to mounting the Yakima.
Just want to thank you all for your posts and pictures.

Best Regards,

Mine has scratches from the dealer installing it, so take your time be careful.

Be SURE to get a fairing. It cuts down the noise 90%.

I'm in CA so i'm trying to find a place with no sales tax to me and cheap/free shipping...don't know how successful i'll be on that though.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks guys!

I had no luck looking online for Yakima racks. Any (very little) price savings was usually offset by the shipping cost. It's almost like price fixing.

I think your best bet would be to try and negotiate a "package" deal with a local dealer. if you are buying a complete rack set with faring, bike/boat mounts etc, they may swing you a deal. You may be able to leave a good impression for future purchases as well.

There are cheapie no name racks on E-Bay. But I don't know anything about them.

Yakima is expensive stuff. But it fits, and it works.

I also wouldn't suggest getting any no name stuff. Look on ebay for "Yakima" racks and accessories. That search will turn up hundreds of auctions.

When I wrote "local dealer" I ment somewhere like a sporting goods store.
NOT the Toyota/Scion dealer.

Hope that helps.

I'd check out www.rockymounts.com They make great bike trays in a ton of colors and they retail for like 55.00 so forget yakima.

I've got the blue trays on my shadow mica xB. I'll try to snap some pictures in the next couple of days.

I actually bought mine last summer for $55 from the local bike shop but mine were a solid blue. The camo ones would definitely be awesome even though they're a bit more dough.
