You will have to go with a stock replacement.

I am sure he would actually sell alot more for the people that would like to upgrade the handle but do not want chrome(like me)
just a thought.
Here is the answer to the problem:

The real answer to the problem is open the door properly and allow the hatch shocks open the door or use the grab handle inside the door. Do not pull up on the hatch garnish.
Goth I do not think it is possible to get them in an unfinished form, I will mention it to him though. Just in case he decides to do a new batch he can check into it for you. He is going to sell the first lot and then decide.

Well, before the shocks kick in you still have to lift the hatch about half way up. Owners manual says to lift it up by pulling on the handle. The inside handle you mentioned is for closing the hatch, not opening it. Just a weak manufacturer's design, really. The add-on thingy that i posted above makes it just about impossible to break the factory one.
The handle on the inside is for opening and closing the door. The part we are referring to as the handle is actually called the rear hatch garnish. Look in the PDF file for the rear hatch diagram.
Also gothbox it is a no go on the non chrome version.

Hi,
My rear hatch handle is secure on the edges, but it is cracked loose in the middle area.... I think I am going to go with a replacement from ScionPro.com and have exchanged e-mails with Steve from there....up to $109 NOW...
I took the inside felt pad off tonite, but it got dark so I can't finish taking it apart until tomorrow... I am hoping maybe I can improvise some sort of bypass-repair to reinforce the middle area of the piece....but it may well require a new handle part....

Hi
Quick update...
Today I opened up the hatch and took the
handle out and saw that it was indeed broken
on one side where the bronze bolt was broken
loose from the handle.
As a temporary fix, I moved the bolt to the other
side of the handle replacing the plastic clip. I bolted
it all back together and the handle is much sturdier
for now. I suspect that area will crack before too long
requiring a new hatch handle.
Maybe I should buy the handle now to save against future
price rises...

this is the ONLY thing holding on my hatch garnish on one of my B's. It's not attached at either end, and it feels 100 times stronger and more secure than the unbroken garnish on my other B. This is a great product that eliminates the need to buy a new garnish.
Thanks Cliff. Great feeling, LOL. I think it's at least 10 times stronger than factory design, anyway. I had to do a little demonstration of this brace and pulled my own xB in neutral a few feet by grabbing just the hatch handle. It's never gonna break again.
