waiting on someone to post on the temp under a hood without the headers raped so i can make sure the plastic would not melt LOL!!! But i have tried to bend the plastic myself and the back of the hood is easy to do the front is a little crazy but i think i can do it. But dont know the temps of under the hood of a non header raped engine LOL!!!! Hope someone can get back to me soon LOL!!!

The engine cover is plastic you should have no problem from the engine heat,Now parked in the sun over a long weekend might be a different story.

I can get you underhood temp on an engine w/ a Strup header. If you can match that other setups (excluding turbo) should be cake. Thermocouple w/ datalogger FTW!

You'd love my lab, we've got a differential scanning calorimeter, digital controlled ovens up to 316 C and thermal shock chambers. Only problem is our test prices are in the thousands. I'm working w/ liquid crystal polymers (LCP) at the moment, it would be perfect but the resin isn't clear and only comes in pellet, not sheet form.

Scott, there are many different materials classified as "plastic". Unless he's making the hood out of the same material, can't really qualify it by similarity. Even changing blend ratios of siloxanes in the same base material will have a profound affect on temperature resistance.

tis sounds really cool especially af a motor is all chromed out or turboed/supercharged out the ying yahg

I am trying to get back to the shop i am out n a boat for the rest of the week till monday LOL!!! So i dont have th stuff on the boat to do it with LOL!!! But let me know the temps if you can please.

ok I have dropped the ball, at some point in this past week I have lost my thermometer. so unless I can find it tonight sometime then I am out for temp readings.

Sorry, I have the thermocouple but couldn't get it mounted under the hood last week, gonna zip tie it this week I think.

Ok. just did it real quick..

I got 235 F at the firewall, just below the hood above the header..

I got 505 F and climbing at the headers surface directly with the hood popped..

What about how hot the hood was LOL!!! Just wondering? I got a little lower reading with the headers wraped but i am going to use the one temps with the headers not wraped so i can test the plastic and thanks for the readings!!! Let me know how hot the hood gets!!!!!
