Default 1 of the highest mileage XBs!, RIP. What's your mileage?

(similar to post in the regional forum where I'm more likely to find a car I can use to get a regional market value, but I also wanted to hear from around the country)

2 weeks ago a 16 year old talking on a mobile phone to his mom (no ____, he wrote this in his police accident info form!), with no working windshield wipers in the rain (also on his info form), speeding, with no headlights ran a red light sending what may be the highest mileage scion in Utah to the scrapper. The kid was in a '90 Geo Prism (Toyota Corolla) going south on state & slammed into me as I was crossing on 500 s. going West, in SLC. He hit the passenger door dead on hard enough that the full drivers side slammed into the Ford Ranger (also likely totaled) also crossing state in the lane next to me. For those wondering how safe these great little boxes are, I walked away with a only few minor cuts & gnarly bruises, mostly the one from my seat belt, as well as your typical back & neck pains etc. that I can't really talk to much about cuz I haven't settled that part with his ins. yet. I was the only one in the car but it seems as though any others in the car, even the front passenger seat, would have likely came out about the same which I doubt those in most other cars would be able to claim in such a wreck. They closed 5th s. for about 2 hours to clean it up.

Here's where you come in: I'm desperately looking to find another high miles xb, especially in the area but any similar mileage should help, to get an independent assessment on.

The kids insurance company, Farmers (drop 'em if you've got 'em! they won't pay out properly if you're liable in a wreck, leaving you exposed to the possibility of a personal lawsuit!), is trying to screw me on the value, mostly on the 171,000 miles. We all know that these cars wear mileage quite well & it typically only minimally at best affects the actual market value. NADA & Kelly etc. still hit you more than the actual market does but these jerks are going way above and beyond that (violating UT law so hells yeah I've opened a complaint!) & hitting me for over $1000 above what even these places hit you for on mileage. My xb was immaculate with all maintenance on time from a great mechanic (me! ) , using only top quality parts including only Castrol synthetic oil from the start. Last month I even added a a tow hitch & wiring ($350 value). Not only is Farmers committing reverse Insurance fraud by the miles but the assessor included blatant, but standard, lies about the condition of the car claiming a faded dash (LOL! how does any modern car with tint ever get a faded dash after only 3 years?!!), peeling/fading trim, pitted glass, leaking engine/tranny, etc. They claimed most of them as "normal wear" & didn't seem to take off value on most of them but no less, all these things we're quite laughable. The lesson being regularly document the condition & value of your car because if your car is totalled the Insurance company will lie & commit fraud to try & screw you.

Anywho, if you have or know of a high mileage xb let's talk! gad jet slc at g mail minus the spaces

I'm also now looking for a 1st gen. xb manual trans., preferably black cherry or another dark color.

Thanx all!, David!

& just 1 short month ago in San Francisco quite capably pulling my trailered Stella

At first I couldn't believe he hit you hard enough to shove you into the guy next to you, but now that I think about it, it's a good thing you were being flanked by a taller vehicle...or else you would have gone flying a$$-over-teakettle into heaven knows what.

The kid that hit you needs a kick in the teeth. I hope you're suing the crap out of him for basic negligence. It's your civic DUTY! Remember: stupidity should hurt!

Repeat after me: OUCH, my neck! ;)

only if you used the can to knock out the owner of another xB, and then stole his car ;)

Uh, if you're saying what I THINK you're saying (which frankly I'm not sure of at all, grammar-wise) ...the winky-face { ;) }is the internet's way of saying JUST KIDDING, IT'S ALL A BIG JOKE! Besides, he's probably badly injured enough to have a real-life lawsuit, which he should definitely pursue against someone who's was speeding, IN THE RAIN, WITH NO WIPERS, ON A CELLPHONE, THROUGH A RED LIGHT.

In case you're wondering, I was also kidding about using a can of FixaDent to knock someone out so you can take his car.

Good luck. Insurance is always a PITA. If you don't like how the other insurance company is handling it, can't you pay your deductible and go through your insurance? Then your insurance will fight with Farmers to collect their expenses and whatever other damages. Once it's settled, they'd reimburse you the deductible and it won't count against you if it's not your fault.

I would think the insurance company would have to pay KBB market value ($9,500?) and anything extra for parts you've added like the trailer hitch?

Sucks about what happened. What is YOUR insurance doing to help you out? Your insurance should pay you off and collect that amount from his insurance. Just let the 2 companies fight it out.
The other company can try whatever they want but the fact that xBs hold their values and depreciate very little because of miles is still gonna weigh heavy in your favor.

What's with the scooter, you got a suspended license or something? That spare tire on a scooter is awesome. At least your gas mileage is better!
