Had the Scion xB for almost two weeks now. I am very surprised that I do not have any complaints about this car. I feel the scion is more comfortable than most cars and trucks that are twice its size. Theres so much room in both the front and the back that you don't even feel cramped after a very long trip. The ride is smooth and I don't have to worry about breaking the car driving over the cross bronx expressway because it actually has some ground clearance unlike my other cars. I do wish the car had a little bit more power, but I didn't expect much from a 1.5 liter, this car was bought for the fuel economy, not the speed. It's a bit sluggish at first but after you get going, it feels nice cruising at 80 on the highway and it handles remarkably for what it is. We went up to Montreal this weekend with it and for some reason, we got more attention there than if you were driving around in a sports car or something. Most of the people had never scene one before and were all asking questions about what it was. The girls liked it because it was unique. I feel that this car is great right out of the package stock. In all honesty, you really dont have to do much to this vehicle to suite your likings. The only suggestion I do have is to get rid of the stock steelies, this car needs a wider set of tires, we swapped them out for a set of 225's and the cars handling changed from night to day. In one week all of my friends went from saying why the hell did you buy a box with wheels to "____, I love this thing I want one too"....

Great review. There are a couple of things you can do to make it more peppy if you desire to. A cold air intake (K&N) and exhaust (Strup) will make a noticeable difference.

TJ, no harm in changing oil early. The first oil fill is more liable than the latter fills to become contaminated faster by water and blowby products (this is a tendency)

If the oil smells of gasoline (it will, in a stop-go driven car) then you see, some gasoline is admixed into the oil. Gasoline does not lubricate. It does just thin the oil out.

Toyota recommendations are -fine-. I will be changing my oil very shortly even though I'm nowhere near three K yet.

I won't change the filter, yet, though. It works better as a filter with a leeedle bit of dirt in it, grins, but -true-

ummm, I think the car is broken in now considering we pretty much topped it out the whole way home from canada

 

I have had mine for 18 days now and it is a great car ( my last one was a 91 accord). My wife thinks it is to small but what does she know she drives a f150, ha ha ha .
