Just did a search at NHTSA, at Rostra, and at other sites and only recall on the cruise I can find is one that affected controls built in '95-96... Does not apply to our vehicles, obviously.

If anyone finds any different/newer info that might affect any Rostra cruise controls on Toyota/Scion vehicles, post up what you find.

So far there is NO confirmation of any problem.

there wasn't a factory option on the xB for cruise control...several dealers are offering an aftermarket system that will fit...

The "Southeast" area Scion dealers are allowed to offer cruise control as an option. Go to the "build my Scion" web site and use a Southeast zip code and you will see the selectable cruise control option and cost. My '06 has a Southeast Scion cruise control, installed at the dealer( I will let you know the dealer if you need to know). It has has had several instances of hanging up with the engine speed WIDE open, rev limiter is all that saves it. The dealer looked at it twice and the second time DID NOT EVEN allow us to use a courtesy vehicle while they were trying to correct the problem. They said call the next time it happened. It happened on a weekend and they would not send anyone out to look at it. I even have a video of the thing hung up wide open. They did not fix it after taking it back twice. My calls to the Scion help line was less than helpful, NOTHING but evidently a waste of time. Since it is not predictable when it will happen, the dealer has not actually seen it happen, other than on the video. I asked them to initiate a recall, or at least for the ones installed at this dealership. They say let it warm up, AT 6000 RPM and it will come back down to an idle. My wife has actually put the vehicle in reverse and drive several times AT 6000 RPM with the rev limiter the only thing that keeps it from blowing. The dealer does not believe that any damage has or will be done to the engine or transmission. I'm not so sure. It got so bad that my wife would not drive her new car. The last time it happened, she called and I drove to where she had parked. Several people had asked how she made her car make the terrible noise (rev limiter saving the engine). I am not a mechanic, but I opened the hood and found that the cruise control appeared to be catching on something which would keep the throttle wide open. After looking at pictures on the internet of the actual installation instructions, I am sure that it was improperly installed. The dealer wants to know what I did to correct the problem (which I did). I said that if they would recall the installations at the dealership, I would tell them what to look for. They refused.

If anyone else is having or has had this problem, please let me know. I will tell you what I did to correct the problem.

Almost true. Based on independent studies I've done a while back, you can just have a severely surreal experience and no hallucinations. For the most part though, I have found that hallucinating usually is the end result of hallucinogen use.

I'm cheap and easy - I can hallucinate just by taking Benadryl antihistamine.

my little sis is like that, she spends just 7.99 at the drug store for Coricidin.

but really you don't even need to take alot.

I got the rostra unit off of e-bay for christmas it is the same unit that many dealers offer as an aftermarket kit for the earlier years that did not come with it I installed the kit myself and it works great the kit was made specific to a scion xb and everything fit great only 3 wires had to be taped into factory wiring everything else has harnesses that plug into stock wiring without cutting. all the wires were even the correct length the cruise control works very good and operates a lot smoother than the cruise control on some other cars that cause the engine to rev way up when accelerating and on hills. my kit was 209 dollars and is much more justifiable than the 400 that the dealership wanted to install the same kit. if anyone is thinking of attempting the install their self pm me and i will give you my cell phone number in case you have any questions while you are working on it.

Nothing in the EBSCO Auto Repair Reference Center on this.

Maybe somebody has a bunch of off-brand cruise units to sell...
