2006 XB Rust Spreading
#24
Datsuns (Nissans), Hondas, Fiats and many others turned into rust buckets before car bodies primed with zinc base paint became standard by the mid eighties. Ford F100s and later F150s rusted through the fenders, wheelwells and doors pretty easily.
In my opinion, we are spoiled by the improvements made in body quality compared to the sixites, seventies and beyond.

OMG! OMG! If I received treatment like that I would drive mine right through the front of the dealership. Or if it was in the liftgate I would back it through. OOPS sorry clutch slipped! Let insurance fix it and find a bodyshop with a lifetime warranty if they exist there. That is crap, they should fix that for you no ?'s asked. They would be just as upset if it were their own car. Good luck and I hope to hear about Scion resolving this issue right, if not well you can make them listen by my suggestion!

Drining it through the front window would help my psychology but I want to hold out for my pocketbook. I dont want a rust bucket. I bought the car to put on a lot of miles over an extended period of time. This, clearly, is not the car I was hoping to get from Toyota. After arbitration I plan to demand they take the car back and refund my money. I will need to document what is happening with this model to show it is a problem that will significantly lessen the value and safety of the vehilce. I think rust does that and also future rust holes in the liftgate would expose occupants to carbon monoxide poinioning. I would appreciate information from other owners who are having rust. my e-mail is campbellr@woh.rr.com.

I just checked mine thouroughly again today and I did find a spot I am concerned about. Top front corner of the rear passenger door. Not rust yet but I'm sure it will be something to keep an eye on. I love the car but I am having minor probs with mine such as rear window trim popping up on the outside and my drivers side front power window/lock swith also popping up. I just havent made it to the dealer to take up these issues with them.

5 year unlimited mileage - rust through perforation warranty on your scions is the actual warranty. says on your window sticker and in your factory warranty booklet in your first aid kit. it sucks, but unless it has perforated the exterior sheet metal of your car, it is not covered.

I believe it is a six year corrosion warranty. Regarding the "rust through" provision, I will look to see if it clearly states "rust through all the metal leaving a hole clear through the metal". Could it not mean rust through the paint to the exterior of the panel? Does it have to rust through the metal but leave the paint in place? Ambigutiy should be resolved in favor of the party not drafting the contract. I wonder who has sued them to clarify the question?

Thank you, you are right. I looked at 6(0) months... that is 5 years. The dealer has ground down my liftgate and painted. I have it in my garage now and hove found another rust spot. I'm getting ready to call them. They wont talk about the "R" word anymore, its always a "paint defect". I guess the "F" word and even the "N" word is more acceptable to them. Strnage business. Thanks again for the heads up on 5 years limit.
