2006 Xb or waiting for 2007 Xb?
Hi, everybody.
I am a newbie and I am _seriously_ considering buying a Xb. I had a test drive today and... well, I have to say I like it very much. I can't believe this is a small car with a tiny 1500cc engine in it. The accerleration is more than I expected, the ride is both firm and soft with stability. I like the roomy interior as well.
But it seems that the price tag of about $15,000 seems to be a little higher for me now. So I am now facing a choice. One is that I buy a Xb right now with car loan. The other alternative is that I will wait until next year (to save more money) and buy a 2007 Xb model.
Which one will be a better choice? It seems that Scion will roll out a new model from 2008 year Xb. Considering that, buying a 2007 Xb model next year might be coming with a cash-back option or similar offer and I will have saved more money for downpayment. On the other hand, Scion can increase the price for Xb for 2007 year model. I am not sure which effect will be eventually dominating here.
Can I have some opinions about this?
By the way, this is my first time to considering a new car and I am discovering that it's a lot of headache. All the new cars are kind of attractive. I have tried Honda Fit, Nissan Sentra, and Scion Xb. Fit seems to be overall good, Sentra is coming with a nice cashback offer ($2250) and Xb is the most attractive.
Thanks.

You will be waiting a looooong time for a 2007 xB.
2006 is the last year for the xB
I dont see scion offering any cash back incentives on them either, they are selling like hot cakes.
If you really want the xB get it now. You wont be dissapointed.

I would go with the 06' XB. I just purchased one myself and I love it. This is my 3rd new car purchase and it's my favorite by far. I would not wait around for cash back incentives and factory rebates. You will not save much in the long run. I think your best bet is to bite the bullet and just go for it. Try to secure an outside loan with a good A.P.R before you deal with Toyota financial so you have a bargaining tool. BE SURE to get a quote from your insurance company because mine actually went up from my previous car. I can't explain it because my last car was an 04' Jeep Wrangler with the 6 cyl and no ABS. I had to switch to Geico as they had a greats for me with the Scion and I am now saving money over the Wrangler. Good Luck
I have bought 2 cars new and one used. '96 ford e-150 was my first purchase used, '01 camry first new purchase in Dec '00, and the '06 xB was the second new car I bought last month.
I dont think Scion will ever do a cash back option or any rebates. The price on the sticker is what you pay. Kind of like Saturns. No haggle no negociating. The only thing you will be able to get out of them is maybe a free cruise control or mats. Something like that. I got a base model so that I can do all the upgrades and mods myself, and I got them to throw in cruise. Bought all 5 mats for less than what the dealer wanted for the front 4.
I have wanted an xB since they came out, but I just got one last month. I finally could justify getting it. My van got 9-10mpg and it has a 35 gal gas tank.
Do the math at $3 per gallon prices.
I think if you wait a little bit you will be more sure of what vehicle fits your NEEDS better.
"Good things come to those who wait" you'll probably enjoy it more too.
Later!

It depends on the area which you buy your car from. For me, I'm in the gulf States area, and Cruise Control is offered, but I believe areas like the NE doesn't have it available.

You need to read the various posts in the xB owner's lounge forum under 2008 rumors. You will see that there will be a special edition model for 2007 and then an early 2008 release. There is a general belief that the 2008 will be bigger and have a larger engine. The 2007 model will be the RS4 (release series 4) and will be fully loaded---there will be NO discounts. The 2008 will, if indeed it is larger, cost more money as well. Based on previous xB RS models you are probably looking at about 18 grand. Good luck with your decision.

Do you really think all of 2007 will be RS models? $18,000 is bumping against the Element which has more hp and is bigger.
If Scion moves exclusively into $16,000 and up starting MSRP, they will have partially failed. Because part of the mission was to sell cars to the young, first time customer market. They'll be leaving them to the Koreans if they can't succeed in the $14,000 to $15,000 range.
I know the tC is their most successful model, but if it's just to reclaim the near-sports car buyer, well Honda does that without a separate brand.

Here is the info currently available on the RS4

The RS3 had a package that added $2300 to the base price. Each RS model has been more than the last. Toyota has not problem getting the extra money on the RS models. It will be the only game in town--or so it is said.

I think the rumors are nuts.
The RS series accounts for what percentage of the xB's sales? I'm sure you are going to get some people who will want every option, but it's pushing the limits of what the vehicle can sell for.
OK, I looked it up the 3 series combined was about 6,800 vehicles. According to this story:
http://www.forbes.com/2005/01/05/cx_dl_0105show.html
there were 43,186 xB's sold for 11 months in 2004. If you take all the RS and make them a percentage of that 11 month sales period (and they weren't), you get 16% of xB's sold. That is no guarantee you could sell that many or more starting at $2,300 additional MSRP.

More like interesting rumor. The only "news" part is "03R2 Mazora" showed up in Toyota of America's paint code list, and there was a Japanese special model with "Maziora" paint.
Everything else is speculation. I wouldn't make a decision, like when to buy an xB which was the reason for this thread, based on speculation.
To the original poster: If you don't want to pay for an xB now, and really want one, save up a couple of months, maybe work some overtime, and hopefully they will still offer what you want at the price you want when you are ready. If not, there will still be other cars to choose from.

Yes, in 2007 Scion will turn away from 40,000+ potential sales so they can "clear the deck" a year to get ready for a vehicle that will directly compete with the Honda Element, instead of being in a niche by itself. There is an update to the xB already being mass produced, which just needs a larger bumper and some modified front styling to be ready to sell in America. But they're not going to release it, because they want their pet project, which isn't going to be ready for a year, to get the glory.
Aren't rumors great?
There are plenty of ways to make the rumors essentially true but not what people assume them to mean.
"We are not releasing the new bB:" The front fascia will be changed, and it will be sold as a Scion instead of a Toyota. After all, the Daihatsu D is "not" the new bB, either.
