I was just thinking the same thing. It looks like a Saturn VUE a little bit.

yucky yucky yucky. the new xb will really really really attract young familes as a cheaper , cooler , mini minivan/suv.

scion/toyota will still make grotesque amounts of money but the scion tuning community or at least me will be sad

Not to hijack the thread here, but Toyota makes VERY little money on Scion.

And to all the people who hate the new xB, I'll only say that Scion wouldn't be able to put a cap on its sales figures by introducing a universally appealing new line.

c_rowe - I am not 100% sure that this is what you mean, but...

Are you saying that Scion won't make an appealing car because they don't want to sell a high volume? And if they make an ugly car, they won't need a sales cap. I'd rather own an attractive car that sells 300,000 units a year instead of owning an ugly car that only sells 20,000 units just to be exclusive.

If this is their business model, then they certainly will not be around too long.

Sort of .

Exclusivity and low volume are critical to Scion's status as a "cult" brand. All I'm saying is that while the 1st generation xB was polarizing, it wasn't polarizing enough. I think that with this redesign, Scion is actively trying to alienate the buyers that it frankly doesn't want driving its vehicles.

I think that this is an appealing vehicle, and that Scion's desired audience will find it appealing. That's not to say you are exlcuded from the target market if you don't like it, but I think Scion has a pretty good idea of what its customers want and how it sees itself evolving.

Remember, its Toyota running Scion, not GM .

Okay, I understand what you are saying, but I disagree. We can agree to disagree...not a problem. I think the boxy, xB Classic, as some are now calling it, was more "polarizing" than the redesigned version. A lot of people hate the way the xB Classic looks. It seems, to me at least, that rounding it off makes it more mainstream. The original poster stated that it looks like a small SUV. What is more mainstream than that?

They made it larger with a bigger engine, and therefore less fuel efficient. Again, I think that most Americans want a more powerful engine. This does not support selling less cars.

Who knows...maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that they may sell more with this version even if they intended alienate buyers and stay exclusive to a certain market.

Exactly... (M.T.) Let all the other "struggling" car makers make mediocor vehiciles. Scion as I knew it, went against the mainstream... until now. Blah, blah -blech- blah. It looks like everything else.

I love my "old school" box even more!

Right! Now that we know how fugly the next xB is it will make our classic xB even more special. I love my xB and will never replace it with the new POS.

Default New 2008 Scion XB

The new 2008 Scion XB sucks !!!It looks like a combination of a cambry/SUV/minivan. They took everything about the XB that was cool like the sharp angled front grill, sides and back and made it all soft and bloated looking. There is nothing cool or edgy about this vehicle and unless they get rid of all the swoopy curves on this thing I will keep my original XB. What a disappointment P.S. the new grill looks pathetic. They should fire the fool that designed this
