2500 mile road trip,or, i am a geriatric groupie magnet.
i just got back from a 10 day road trip with my 06 pw auto xb. we went from sacramento to denver and back. we went to denver on highway 50 and came back highway 80. 50 was a great drive . i like driving in the desert and the road, once we got out of cali , was butter smooth the whole way. weather was perfect except got snowed on pretty good on the vail pass 11500 ft. stayed three days at my wifes longtime friend . then we took a nice slow drive back to sac on 80, stopping alot to see sights and shop at every antique store from denver to reno. fortunately there few towns in that 1100 miles.
on the whole trip i saw a total of two xbs. one in denver and one in wendover nv. in wendover when i was bringing the 8 pieces of my wifes luggage to the car i saw a nice hot lava xb parked next to me. dragging that mess i wasnt able to reach thier car in time to chat before that young couple left. all throughout nevada, colorado, utah , wyoming 99 per cent of the people had never seen an xb and wondered what it was. many times myself or my wife would come back to the car and their would be 1 ti 5 people standing around asking about it. all were positive especially when i mentioned the price and mileage. i was approached every time i stopped . it was a little weird at first but got used to it . my wife couldnt stop giggling when we would stop.
i am 49 so a lot of people wouldnt hesitate to come up and ask about it. the youngest was about my age but the average age was 70. also about 70 per cent were women who thought it was soooo cute. i had to stop at a few gun stores to get a testosterone boost. one 89 year old woman told her 92 year old husband she had to have one. out of cali i am a babe magnet. ive got the lock on girls 8 to 14 and 70 to 90, but not much in between.
all in all it was a great trip . i averaged 35 mpg with a high of 39 , flat 200 miles and tail wind, and a low of 29 , uphill 3 rd gear and headwind. i think i will miss the crowds .
