Default 35 miles on my Box and a hub cap came off while driving

My wife drove my box for the first time today to come pick me up from the Ford dealership (I got a refund for my lemon-2004 F150 FX4).

She got nervous when a "rough-lookin" guy started waving at her at a red light. She thought he was going to comment about the car, but instead he told her she lost a hubcap not too far back down the road.

She was so worried that I was going to be mad since I am so particular about my vehicles, but I just laughed and told her we would look for it.

After about 5 minutes of looking, she found it

I got home and put it back on and checked all of the other ones to make sure they weren't loose.

Anybody else have this problem?

sounds like somebody didn't do a thorough job of installing your hubcaps.

by design, hubcaps are not that strong anyways. one big bump, and you can lose them, after all, they're just a little metal ring and some plastic.

The distributor, not the factory, applies those plastic wheel covers to the new cars . American hourly-wage labor still does not give a rip or take a tip.

Mine were put on sloppy. DO align the valve stem hole. Butt the perimeter of the cover all around with the heel of your palm.

Your wife's cap came off because someone here, stateside, did not care.

The caps are retained bya logical, fail-proof gripping system which is spring loaded, silent and reliable.

best to you,
reid

sorta, yes, but you can find a knack to make it easy!

I sit down and with a socked on foot, use that foot as a third hand. This is easiest for newbies like me.

now I can pop those caps off and put them on wham bam with two hands, no feet.

do hit the perimeter with your heel of your palm. be sure they're fully in all the way around or you may lose a cap. it's our fault if we do.

To remove a stock wheel cover just yank it off. Do not pry.

It must not have been put on all the way,I hit a "BIG" pot hole bent the inner lip and blew out the side wall and the cap did'nt budge.
That is one reason I havent bought new wheels for mine,Dont think I could have taken a hammer to a mag wheel.

The problem started when I first put the truck in 4 wheel drive. When I put it back in 2 wheel drive and got back on the pavement there was a bad vibration, and the truck only had 5,000 miles.

Long story short...7 attempts, 2 new drive shafts, 2 new rear end assemblies, and numerous tire balances...they couldn't fix the "vibe". I turned it in with 14, 510 miles and it was still vibrating between 50 and 60 MPH.

This is not an isolated case with the FX4 models...look on F150online forums.

Thought about that, but I don't care for the black wheels on a black car...that's just my opinion.

I want to put some rims on, but cash flow is tight.

Same thing happened to me...only owned it 1 week. At least you were lucky enough to get your hubcap back...I watched a semi destroy mine in my rearview mirror! Toyota replaced it at no charge...still looking for nice wheels. Need male advice...I know nothing about wheels! 17, 18, alloy, chrome...everyone I ask tells me something different.

Please get something "low-key". Preferably not chrome. Just a nice tasteful set of alloys would be good. These cars dont' need to be rolling around on 22"s yo! I saw an xB earlier today with wheels that he clearly boosted from a 72' Impala lowrider. Quite ugly.
