Default Any input?

So I went to my local Scion dealer about a month ago. They had two xB's with 54,000 miles for $8-9,000. I was just starting my vehicle search and didnt want to jump right away. So of course they were gone 2 weeks later. So I went to my dealer and he said they would go out an get me what i want. I said i wanted to spend 8-9 thousand on a similar scion to what they had before (54k miles). This was all well and I had to pay $500 that was non-refundable but would go towards the price of the car. Again I had no problem with this. Within three days I get a call and the dealer says what i am looking for will now cost me 10-12 thousand because the demand is up for these cars.

My problem is as a dealer shouldnt you know what is in demand and the prices of the product. I dont see how an 04-05 car can be in high demand?

Why do that and make $500 off me when they can actually find me a car and make more?

They'll make more. $500 is to keep you near by. Did you ever read anything on the tactics dealers use to get more money out of people? Cuz your case is the classic example.

Well, since the Japan earthquake, used Scions have gone up in value significantly...so he does have a point...

Locate your state agency that regulates automobile dealerships. Then contact your dealer, and tell the manager you're going to file a complaint unless they return your money or produce a car that meets the terms of your agreement or contract. They can't just take your money without providing any service for you.
