I was waiting to hear that your new toaster got messed up somehow. Glad all is fine now.
I think you are the only person in AZ who does not own a gun. On a different not, when I am jacked up on meth, I like to hide in peoples yards. Nothing says surprise like a jacked up meth addict in your back yard.

Glad to see you and yours are ok. How in the hell did the wife sleep through most of that going on?
Wow I need to read this when I get the chance!
Don't be afraid of him joining the Marines, absolutely nothing wrong with it even at this point in time! Be proud, support him to the max, never guess or question what he has chosen to do!

As for the gun issues - while I *was* wishing for one at the time (mine is at my dad's place in his safe), I was so keyed up I probably would have just hurt myself.
Be careful with the dogs. Granted this happened when I was 7, so it probably can't happen today, but we got sued by a burglar because our dog, who was locked in the house, roughed him up. All because we didn't have a beware of dog sign.
I'm with them other two guys. A maglight and a nice Mossberg or Ruger P-89 is the way to go.

if they are in the house, its fair game, law states here that if the "body" even has a toe inside the structure, its legal to shoot to kill, and considered protecting yourself and your assets, so if they get in my house, they are well... if my dogs don't lick them to death, they will be handled shortly after, it helps having a police officer within a few miles, whos also a good friend
Before anyone takes the preceding post for gospel, check on your state's own laws. In 25 states you have a "duty to retreat" if at all possible, rather than confronting an assailant.
There are only 25 states where you will not be in trouble if you defend yourself with potentially lethal force instead of running. Florida was the latest to reject the "duty to retreat" and replace it with a "Castle Doctrine" law (as in "a man's home is his castle," etc.)
Check your local laws.

That's good as a joke, Jeff, but it doesn't work in court. Even if you shoot him in your living room, with a knife in his hand, unless there was no way for you to escape, in 25 states he or his family can sue you.
25 states have "duty to retreat" laws that don't allow you to shoot at him unless there is no way for you to escape. (Yeah, laws like that are stupid IMHO, but I don't write 'em, I just read 'em.)

I know a guy on another fire department, hes got manslaughter on his record, he came home found a man in his house, shot the man in the head, and he still managed to get back out the window before falling dead, the police officer said he should have just drug him to the door, and he would have helped get a leg in the door, but because several deputies showed up first, he was arrested and spent 5 years in jail
