Default Best Hitch

Wondering who makes the best hitch for a Xb and where to buy it? Also wondering how people are wiring Xb for trailer. I have checked around and can not find a wiring harness.

Curt Manufacturing makes a great hitch. Easy to install. As far as lights, buy a universal wiring harness and connect it to the drivers side taillight. This will give you running and brakelight, but no turn signals. To do that , you need an adapter module.

luvmyxb,
Do you know where you can get an adapter module? I am wondering if I could find a wiring harness for an Echo if that would work for the XB.

I got mine from hitchsource of of Ebay. You can also buy them direct @ http://www.hitchsource.com/

I just installed mine this morning, only took about a half hour to install and involved NO drilling. It uses the original factory shipping "hook" bracket holes that are prethreaded..

Oh and it manufactured by Curt Manufacturing.

Tell me more about this "adapter module". Where can I get one? I assumed that I could tap into the rear harness like always and have everything. Will I damage anything if I do?

The Xb's and XA's taillights are wired using a five wire system (euro)
wire functions are.
left turn-
right turn-
running lights-
brake lights-
ground-
Sorry I dont have the color codes for the wiring functions.

most small trailer lights are wired as a four wire system (US)
left turn/stop light
right turn/stop light
running lights
ground

To get the lights on the trailer to work you need to add a tail light converter, something like......
http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...ductId=1288819
their are others out their you just have to look around. (
10 to 15 bucks) Another poster brought up the spade type wire taps, at best these very poor they tend to do more damage to the wires then good. I'm the shop foreman at a large truck equipment house in New England and do not allow them to be used in the shop. They may be fast but they are not relible in the long run.

PS Ill post the wire color codes for the tail lights soon

I got mine from NAPA. I hooked it up on the passenger side rear light and then ran the wire over to the drivers side for the left turn signal pick-up. That way I could keep the plug and wire stowed out of sight away inside that little removable panel at the passenger side rear.

Could those of you who have hitches on xBs PLEASE post pics? I would love to get one...not for towing, but to mount a bike rack or load platform.

This is where I got mine. It fits great and only took a half hour to install with no drilling. It uses the factory shipping bracket holes.

WELL CRAPITY CRAP CRAP!!!!

Here's a cut-n-paste from that auction:
"This hitch is not compatible with the Release Edition of the xB due to an exhaust interference issue. Not sure whether yours is a Release Edition? Only 2500 of the Release edition were ever made and they were all yellow and included a factory spoiler and tunable exhaust system. "

Guess which xB we have.

Default Hitch mods

I modified my Curt hitch a bit to use a stainless muffler. I was in a big hurry so I don't have mesurements Sorry.
It is very easy to do. A good muffler shop/welder can look at my pics and work from it.
I just cut the section out over the muffler, and changed one mount. on the passenger side.

The C clamp location was not welded. I bolted it here with two bolts last.

I also cut the receiver sleeve back about four inches and raised it slightly. I had a custom made receiver made with a longer insert.

This pic is with my homemade plug.

Well, I've gone through two hitches now from Curt... the first was the wrong one (for Geo Tracker) and the second was bent bad enough that the bolt holes wouldn't line up. Please make sure you get yours from a place that will work with you on returns. HitchSource.com has been great through this but I think Curt MFG needs to improve thier shipping and quality control departments a bit.
