I thought our xBs had a published and accepted cD of .35. My tests with my Scangauge show that for my xB, at least, it's not possible to get 40 mpg going faster than 55 mph.

See, mine is regularly over 55, but only for a short stint getting on the highway and then I drop to either Idle or depending on traffic flow EOC and roll down the mile hill or so to my exit...

Yep, you've got a good mileage routine. You're on my list for a free dinner when/if you get to the Bay Area or I get to NC.
I should have said, "it's not possible to get 40 mpg for long distances on level ground while going faster than 55 mph."

That is true, I even catch myself doing it on open highways, Normally I try to keep the motor between 3000-3500 if I have to be on the highway, and Im normally jsut cruising in the right lane. Anything between 60-63 will net me 40 during a long road trip because of the above behavior.

Looked at the Fastest xB thread, and some of you guys are amazingly cold, especially since most xB mods are purely cosmetic. Whew!
If anybody's thinking of calling me out, look at this: The 12/31/69 date is an error - should be 7/30/09 but I entered it as 0209-07-30. Correction won't show until later. My last 3 tank average is 51.4 mpg, so I'm getting better, not worse. The SE states with their E10 and need to run AC caused most of my sub-40 mpg tanks.

Dude, killer mileage. I see you're frequenting Gallup NM a lot. I have family in Bread Springs, i believe south of there. I'm coming up there next summer and will be between Gallup and Albuquerque for a few months. I lived in Gallup in '07 and Albuquerque in '08. Just cool to see another person with internet knows Gallup exist. Haha.

JahJosef,
I volunteered a month in Chaco Culture Nat'l Historic Park in Spring 2008, driving 70 miles to Farmington for groceries about once/week. Loved NM and the people. I couldn't believe how perfect the mesas on the Rez are for mileage. I'd climb to a mesa top averaging 45 mpg, and build my trip average mileage up to 55 mpg on the downhill coast.
My notes from 8/1/09

I had a killer mileage day on the Navajo and Hopi Reservations today. I drove from Gallup to Tuba City, 164.9 miles, and my mileage just kept getting better and better. It's a route with almost no traffic, so I could pulse up to 60 mph and glide down to 40 mph. That maximized my glide distances, and there were enough mesas with glide distances of ~5 miles to drag out my mileage.
At 81.8 miles on the trip, I was getting 54.7 mpg per my Scangauge. My calibration factor was 13.4%, even though 11.1% is more accurate, as I don't like to be surprised by disappointment when I fill up.
At 90 miles, i was up to 55.0 mpg. At 100.2 miles, my mileage was up to 56.9 mpg, and was still there at 115 miles. At 142 miles, I was still at 54.9 mpg, and the Scangauge trip mileage was right at 55 mpg driving into Tuba City. When I filled up, I got 59 (58.977) mpg actual mileage over the 164.9 miles, thanks to my Scangauge calibration conservatism.
I tanked up in Tuba City to preserve the excellent mileage before getting on busier roads to drive to St. George, UT. Over the next 210 miles, I was able to coax an indicated 49.7 mpg per the Scangauge. With the calibration conservatism, that's safely over 50 mpg for the last half of the day, and about 55 mpg for the day.

Our MTs are geared 22% lower (high gear X final drive ratio) than the 1G AT xBs. We turn about 2600 rpm at 50 mph, and 3000 rpm at 60 mph. You run 2300 rpm at 55 mph, while I run 2800 rpm at 55 mph. If you can keep your AT in TC lockup, you'll clean my clock (mileage-wise) cruising at highway speeds.

You'd think the Yaris or Corolla trans would have been in the xB.

So I can expect you to beat my 499 mile tank? I figure I'll go for 550 miles on my current tank. I couldn't do that when I was on my road trip this Summer, since I was in unfamiliar territory, and sometimes 50 miles from the nearest town.
