I know this is the xA forum and my two cents aren't about to count for anything, but I just wanted to share my kill story. (Wasn't even in my scion) I was on my bike at 2 in the afternoon on 280 here in the bay heading southbound. A black Beemer pulls up next to me revs, pulls, then drops back to me. I dropped it to third and yanked the throttle. Third, fourth, fifth... I hit 175 in six seconds. And then I hit the rev limiter. At 175 that beemer pulled away with a high-ho silver and my middle finger in his rear view mirror. (Shoot, coulda been a chick for all I know)

Yeah it's a kill story, I wasn't doing the killing this time tho.

I don't think Beemers slouch much when it comes time to work the roads.

*shrug* [/pointless story]

Big difference from an M5 and regular beemers. . .
The M5 was a beast. . . I had the pleasure of riding in one once. It was my favorite sedan of all time, recently replaced by the E55 AMG, which is cheaper and faster.

Undoubtedly, their higher models rule the road, BMW. The 745 engine has no throttle body! It uses infinitely variable valve timing to control the air, and removes a huge restriction from the intake by doing that.

Yeah, I never meant to talk down on beemers or anything. . . more so just curious as wtf happened. But don't forget that one fast model doesn't mean they are all fast

I guess the main point I was getting at, is that people knock the xA for bein slow. And by experience and ON PAPER, it can at least hang with a stock auto 525i, yes it can. I mean the numbers are real close! It wouldn't be obliterated or anything, but the xA can at the very least stay close. This doesn't say that the beemer is slow either, it just means that the xA(manual) is faster than people are willing to give it credit for. If people still say it's sub-standardly slow, then that would mean that more than half the cars out there are slow, as the 525i is a reasonably powerful car (the 530 is FAST that I know). I think this is what I was trying to get at, I just never put it properly into words.

I don't think you talked down on bimmers...I think you talked too highly of the xA...lol Yes, our xA is geared for "fast" acceleration, but I doubt he tried finishing the race....

oh yeah, no doubt if he kept goin, it would inevitable out run the xA, no question. Main point, it sub-insane speeds, the xA ain't bad, and it more than fast enough.
That's what I'm tryin to get at. If some say the xA freeway passing times are too slow, then more than half the cars out there are too slow too, assuming they tested the manual. . . I hate it when testers give a verdict, having only tested the manual, as anyone, professional or not, who has tested both will admit to the huge difference in acceleration.

Most probably an M5 with Turbo.

I myself have gone against an M5 riding my '03 Yamaha R6, but even with the power to weight ratio my bike has, the M5 still almost whooped me in a sprint. Anything past 140mph, he would have walked on me easy. :D

Yeah, on a sprint I had him by almost an 1/8th mile, but he wound it out and blew past me. I had him beat to the 1320 tho.

Getting back to the subject at hand, I got toasted in my box by an xA. I'll give the xA props, but in public, I'll deny that I got served off the line by one.

DJCT_Watt:
Just FYI I've got my Xa to 120 (not mythical) in 5th the rpms are about 6450. I think I satyed in 4th until around 111 not sure I just look at the tach and shift before the 6500 mark. It sure would be nice to have a 6th gear to pull maybe 135 (also to reduce the 4000K at 80mph)
