Default Buying tips

Hi Guys,

I'm kinda new here but I've been reading for a few days.

I'm going to the local scion dealer (yeah local--30 miles away!) on Thursday.
I'm looking for some tips in getting a good deal. I currently have a GMC Sierra truck which I've had less than a year, but it's costing to much to run and I don't need a truck.

I still owe on the truck, breaking even with them paying off what I owe on the truck and starting again on the scion would be fine.

I've read about how dealships are kinda not negotiable, but I've met one of the sales guys and he seems cool and I test drove an Xb previously and it's awesome.

This is where it gets complicated. I want to trade, but I gotta get my sales tax covered and my payments around or less than I have now $300. I have excellent credit so that's not a problem but you see, I want the 18 TRD's and the sub, the other mods can wait.

You think i should just forget it, or make the effort and try and work it out with the dealer?

Any help would be appreciated, sorry for the long thread

From what I hear, the bazooka tube isn't all that great. I think you could do this though, not like you have to haggle the price down, it's a set price. Go to scion.com and figure out what kinda payments it would be. As for selling your GMC, I'd go private party.

Oh and another thing... If the dealer tries to make you pay for options you didn't want, DON'T BUY FROM THAT DEALER! Go somewhere else where they will get you exactly what you need.

Depending on which dealer you go to, you might get screwed with a ton of "Documentation fees", aka "consumer services fee" aka "processing fee".

The first dealer I went to tried to charge me $600 for this fee. Look around, you'll probably find a dealer who doesn't charge this fee at all, and isn't too far away. Get an e-mail from the dealer who doesn't charge the fee, and bring that in to your local dealer. Then you can negotiate the fee down, or drop it all together!

My local dealer took off the entire fee when I showed him an e-mail from another dealer offering me a better deal. I told him, if he don't take off the fee, then I'm walking out the door... started walking out, and he gave it to me :D

I'd say give the business to the dealer who was up-front about _not_ charging the junk fee. Basically, you had a dealer try to rip you off, get caught, and then still receive your business. Better to reward the honest dealer.

Couple things to consider....

Make sure they are giving you enough for your trade, and that your not carrying over a balance to your Scion loan.

Make sure you are getting the best APR for you FICO score. I got 4% through Toyota no problem. Here is the site that may help you out.

http://www.scionsolutions.com/posses...retail_buy.jsp

You can get aftermarket wheels from just about anywhere. I found the cheapest place to buy is www.victoriatire.com They have lots to choose from, many look like the TRD and cost a 3rd of the price.

The sub, i have seen several people post here that it isnt worth it. Look under the classified section, and youll see several for sale.

Found out on another thread that you have to watch the price on the extended warranty, as well. Prices vary big time on that.

Well guys, the dream is over before it even started....

Trade in on my truck is 14,300 (according to kbb)
Payoff on my truck is 18,000 (according to my finance company)

There's probably no way they would break even.. huh?

You can probably push them to $15k for your truck, but 18's just not possible.

Keep paying it off, you'll get one at some point. That's my plan.

You can always do what i did, and sell your truck privately. I took out several adds on the internet, and sold a manaul Hyundai Accent within 2 weeks. The dealer offered me $1,100 and i owed $5,400! I listed it for 6K, and sold it for $5,400 making enough to cover my loan pay off. Walked into the Scion with no money down, 4% APR for 5 years, and got the extended warrenty with GAP insurance for a grand total of $345 a month.

If your that set on getting the xB, then it couldnt hurt to sell your truck privately right?
