Cold Automatic Transmission/ Gas Filler Neck
Its been a little nippy for my taste down here in Florida for my tastes. I complain anything below 70 degrees. I hate the cold....
Anyway, I have noticed that my Xb automatic transmission tends to hang to the low gears when its cold. It stays in second gear at 40 mps until the blue light shuts off.
I usually take it nice and easy on my hampster on the wheel until its warmed up. Does this happen to you guys as well or is it something that I should go get checked out.
Also, I think I have to get the dealer to check the safety valve on the neck of my gas tank. I been to a few gas stations to fill up and have not been able to hold the lever down to have to pump fast. It keeps clicking off like when the tank is full. It has done this at 4 diffrent gas stations so I know its not the pump. Anyone has had this problem or the Xb is just sensitive to the speed of the fill?
Thanks Guys and Gals!

yes both happen to me as well i am in south texas its been getting into the 40's at night and when i go to school the next morning that happens to me and i think ive read somewhere on here that its just the engine warming up mine will eventually shift over though but best advice is to just let it warm up a little more before you start moving.
and the gas thing i dont know but it did that to me today when i went to fill up i had to keep pushing it down and thier was a post on here about that and i tried some of the things they suggested like not pushing the plastic thing all the way against the opening cause it builds up pressure well yeah that didnt work im going to the dealer on saturday to pick up my plates and to get my first fee oil change ill ask what to do then.
hope i helped a lil

The service writer mentioned about 4 hours but there were 3 guys on it when I showed up since they forgot about it most of the day. Parts were ordered prior and were in within a few days. I can't find the TSB printout I have but I believe it replaced both the tank and the neck with updated parts as well as a few other misc items.
Another little cold weather idiosyncrasy I noticed yesterday. It had been sub-freezing over night and the shocks/struts (which are stock) were REALLY stiff until they warmed up a little. I've never noticed this with other cars.

It is caused by:
* shape and pressure of the gas stations fill nozzle
* internal shape and pressure relief ability of the of the gas filler neck on the car
WORKAROUND:
The shut off is caused by too much back pressure, which shuts off the gas pump.
Just pull the gas nozzle out about an 1" to relieve the back pressure.
I can't find the printout and Corollatoys does not have it online. Here is the information I got from another thread.
