Default Common xB problems?

Hey all!

My 2005 xB is currently in the shop. The first problem I have with it is the fueling problem. I read about it right when I bought it and I was hoping it wouldn't happen to mine. When I get gas, it clicks off like it's full repeatedly and takes forever to fill the tank. The problem is, my dealership has never heard of this problem and has no clue what to do. They took it and filled it with gas today to see if it would happen and of course it didn't. Hah. I told them that it's common and I'd look some stuff up on it. I don't want it back until it's fixed.

The next problem I haven't heard of anyone else having yet. When I lock my doors while driving, when I go to unlock, all of the doors unlock excpet the driver door. I end up climbing over the passenger seat to get out. They also couldn't get this problem to repeat itself and don't know what to do.

Has anyone had either of these problems? What did they do to fix it? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm want to go in there tomorrow armed with information so that I don't get locked in my car anymore!

Thanks!

Chrissy

Did they look for the TSB for the fuel tank problem? It's on here somewhere, maybe you could find the number and cut down on their research time. lol
Hope they fix your glitches. I've had mine for almost 2 years and it hasn't been back to the dealer since I took delivery. Good luck!

If you're getting locked in your car you have bigger fish to fry. I'd get some adult supervision.

Haha. thanks.

It really does suck though. I was getting gas, and I got back in my car and locked the doors, then when I tried to unlock that one was stuck. I sat there for a bit while the people at the next pump stared at me trying to get it to unlock. It happens all the time, just not when the dealer wants it to.

It's not fun.

with your ear close to the door (somewhere quiet, and secluded (so no one sees you ;) )) listen for the actuator. Listen at each door so you know what you should hear. Maybe there is a problem with the driver's door actuator..... listen for a different sound. Maybe weaker than the others.

I have the same exact problem with my driver door. I have to roll down the window, pull the handle on the outside, and then pull the inside handle. It is a total pain in the @$$, not to mention it makes my car look like a POS to others. I brought it in once and they couldn't replicate the problem. I know how to get it to happen, so I'm going to bring it in when I get the chance. I'll let you know when that happens.

Mine is a 2004. The gas fill problem I solved by holding the nozzle so that it forms a good seal. It doesn't seem to seal well if you try to leave it hanging, and it won't pump automatically. Twice, when I first purchased the xB, I got it to stay hooked on, and put it on "slow fill" When I came back out of Chevron, gas was just running on the ground (my tank was very full, though) . I thought it must be that particular pump, so I was still leaving it unattended at other stations. It happened at my main (7-11)station also (2 time ). I won't be a 3 time so I don't leave it filling unsupervised any more, and I just hold the nozzle. It doesn't take that long to get around 10 gal.

My door might have done it once but I think it got jambed because I tried unlocking it when the door wasn't fully closed then the internal linkage jambed. Pulled up on the lock button closed the door fully then the electric lock button started working properly. Hasn't done it since and hope it doesn't. Kind of caught me off guard ( read confused)

OK, gotta ask.

If you are inside the car and lock the doors, when you try to unlock them, the driver's door does not unlock? Isn't there a little **** on the door (lock ****?) up by the window that you can pull up by hand-without climbing around or opening the window and pulling the outside handle?

Or am I missing something here???

It gets jambed and won't go up. Mine I accidentally hit the lock button on the key fob and it got jambed up because the door was only closed on the first notch.

For me, when the lock gets stuck, I can't pull it up nor can I push it down. You would think that the manual locks would still function, but the same thing that is locking me inside of the car is also keeping the mechanism from working at all. It's terrible.

Of course I tried that. I don't appreciate being locked in my car and having to climb out through the passenger side. It does it randomly when I lock my doors while driving.

These may not help, but they are PDFs from the Scion xB Repair Manual, and deal with testing the door locks...

Inspection

On Vehicle Inspection

(If the door locks have failed, it is likely the problem is warantied.)

Good luck!

I have also noticed problems with door locks! If I use the keychain to unlock from the outside, hitting the button twice they should all unlock. Well if my passenger tries to open the handle before or during my unlocking the front passenger door doesnt unlock at all. I have to hit the button on the inside to lock then unlock. Also as for the fueling issue no problems there except for DO NOT EVER SET THE AUTO SHUT OFF AND GET IN THE CAR AND WALK AWAY. Those auto shutoff devices are not always functional. I am a manager at a gas station and I have seen people do this and almost cause a spill to where the EPA gets involved. Also It is a safety issue.

Door lock problem: if you don't count jethro_b, I would be number three with a door lock problem.

Although, I have to admit, I've never gotten locked in

My driver's door lock will not completely unlock at temperatures under 40 F. It's almost as though it's movement is constricted somehow, becasue I can manually operate it, and pressing the unlock button about three times sends it all the way up. I've noticed some wear on the lock **** itself, and not on the other doors, so I plan on taking the panel down soon if it doesnt' clear up.

I'm sure it's warrantied, but it's a better use of my time, IMO, if i were to do it. At this point, I understand it, and something is ALWAYS lost in translation when I take it in. Actually, it's more the fact that it is an intermittent and therefore perfectly excusable for the mechanic to 'not notice' and charge me anyhow. kinda like rattles.

As far as the gas dealy, I had a ford once that did the same thing. As I understand it, gas pumps sense pressure from inside the tank, or tank tube, in order to determine when to shut off, and I never quite got the seal right on a specific pump. That's what I was told, changed my playpen and my playmates, and the problem disappeared for the most part.

Too bad mine started after I was out of warranty. My wife calls my car Christine cuz it won't let you out sometimes. Mine's an issue with the power locks locking and relocking themselves. But it sure does make you look like an idiot wrestling with the door lock ****... and losing.
