It was suggested the issue could be intake related - allowing coolant to 'burn' unnoticed.
There was a small amount laying in the bottom of the engine compartment after todays use.
I've already received a $1000.00 offer for the car.

sad to see you go. so what do you have in mind to replace it with? if you lived closer to me i would give you a grand for it just to use it as a parts car! only two dilemmas would be first off you said you had a lot of the original parts on the car! other one is that i may be moving cross country soon, and where i will be moving when i do move will not have a yard big enough for it!

Seems like fixing the problem would be much more cost effective than selling it for a grand, then spending who knows how much on a new car?

Awesome to see an xb get so many miles without needing an engine rebuild, goes to show that maintenance really does go a long way!

Have you tried any "stop leak" in the coolant? As far as I can tell, its basically liquid copper that fills in any crack where coolant would be escaping.

i understand where he's coming from though. it seems on here people always get on here, and talk about how measely repairs which seem like nothing costed them over a thousand bucks. not too long ago one of our friends here said he went to the dealership, and they wanted $2500 bucks to fix an oil leak in his ecu, and o2 sensors. he had just hit 200k. to me that's crap. i can get a a brand new refrigerator, or washer, or dryer for under a grand! i mean for each, not for all of them together. i did a roof on my house 4 years ago for way less than a thousand. granted i did it myself, and with help from my brother in law. it seems like these days it costs more to maintain a car than it does to maintain a house! seriously i can't believe it costs more money to maintain a car than a $250k dollar house i just can't.

The 'buyer' did jump on $1000 real quick like. He's my mechanic, so pretty much knows the car.
I really don't know what to replace it with. Used car prices are out of this world. That, and I've gotten pretty comfortable not have payments for over 2 years now. I actually have a couple of Buick Reattas to drive (and also to sell), plus a 1960 Datsun pickup. So I have time to watch for a 'perceived good deal'.
And with oil prices appearing to be heading for a new high........who knows?

Knock On Wood! I put a 'stop leak' product in the coolant system about 500 miles ago. So far I've not had to add coolant. I'm guessing this is will only be a tempory fix, alloying me to 'shop' for Camoritaville's replacement.

Just thought I'd stop by again. The 'stop leak' is holding. Can you say 310,000. Mid-morning today.

I put a pair of 'mud and snow' tires on it yesterday. To my way of thinking, I'm committing to keeping it till spring anyway. I figure every month without a repair is worth around $275.00 (an approximate car payment).

So, the guy I "sold" it to will have to wait a bit longer.

That said, If I found a nice, low mile, 06 xB I'd might be tempted to get the checkbook out.

EXACTLY! I think its main value now is as a "beater with a heater". The exterior is rough to say the least. The interior, as you all know, wears like iron.
Maybe when it just doesn't want to go any further I'll use like a shed.

Any updates on this? Did she finally die? Did you get that low mileage 06? What's your mileage at now?

Actually I was going to post 325,000 on Wednesday. Got busy with other things and forgot.

But I don't think I can buy another. I can't believe the dome light burned out already

Seriously, haven't been searching for a replacement very hard. I'm hoping I can make this one last till Spring now. That way, my normal car fever will kick in just in time.

340,000 -- probably head gasket problem. The end may be near.
