In some districts where the Toyota franchise is owned privately rather than by Toyota (Southeast Toyota, for example), the third-party CC is offered as a port-installed option and can appear to the casual buyer as if it is a caftory option. But it's not made or installed or warranted by Toyota.
In areas where Toyota controls their own distributorship, the aftermarket CC may or may not be available from the dealer. But you can buy it and install it yourself, or have it installed.

I agree^ I used to work for toyota in portland oregon at the place where the cars came in from japan installing dealer add ons such as alarms, running boards and hitches. when done properly, it looks like it came from the factory that way.....
Man was it fun driving the twin turbo supra's up from the docks to the facility.

It has been my experience that the dealers really don't know jack about the cars they sell. I drive cars for a few dealerships (not Scion/Toyota) and although my job is to simply drive a car, I know more about them than the guys who sell them. Whevever I go to the Toyota dealership, I often talk with them about the Scions and half of them don't know what they're talking about anyway. I got the Rostra aftermarket CC. Just make sure you have someone reputable doing the install. After all, they are drilling into your steering column...
Well, they're drilling into the plastic cover for the steering column... (and poking a hole in the gasket between the engine bay and the passenger compartment, and fussing with your throttle cable, and...). But the self-install wasn't too terribly bad, though in my case it came close.

mrsocks, any updates as to if you got the cruise installed and how it went? It's funny the BS a dealer will tell you. Scion dealers are lucky because the cars sell themselves. Otherwise they would be in deep do do. LOL
