Default Dang! Chipped windshield.

I was cruising down the highway, the closest vehicles about 50 yards ahead of me -- none of them semis or other big trucks -- when BAP!!!

Now I have two dime-sized chips about a quarter inch apart, about an inch below the rear view mirror, almost smack in the middle of the windshield. And I've had the car only 9 months.

Had my windshield replaced twice since August.
Some cars go through brakes, on XB's its windshields. Apparently a Box shape is not the best for windshield life.

Has anyone found a decent price on the XB windshield? The two places I check wanted either 5 bills or almost five bills to change the glass.......... ok that is extreme.... My insurance wont do it...they will only fix it and replacement is subject to deductible!

Cool .. we should start a support group .. today makes my third windshield since November .. However check with your insurance company in FLorida no matter what coverage you have your insurance company is responcible for changing your glass FOR FREE !!! So bring on the truckers .. ya freakin jerks ..

dang that sux... i have geico... they make you pay a little bit extra but you can get 0 deductable glass coverage for i think 17 bucks (6 months)...

I got it as soon as I realized the xB is gonna have a huge problem with rocks...

oh yeah... btw you get the hardest hits if the car in front of you is about 5 car lengths away... and watch out for curves or people changing lanes... cuz thats when rocks which aren't normally travelled over get picked up

It's called "Comprehensive" insurance coverage. Get it. It covers damage by kicked-up projectiles (be sure to describe it that way to your claims rep), trees falling on your parked car, theft of stereo or other installed items, and contact with deer (or other animals) in the road. It generally covers damage to your vehicle not covered under Collision coverage. It's much cheaper than collision, and it generally has much lower deductibles.

Contact your insurance agent ASAP!

I have comp, and they do have some basic ins for glass but it doesnt cover the whole replacement. They will fix it however.......they already have once. It needed to be replced then, but the $522 bucks (500 outta my pocket) to replce it was not worth it so it was the patcharoo for my Box! oh well.

Glass is a separate deal on my policy. I run $500 deductible but the glass is $0 and it costs like $10 for a year

I am looking forward to it spliting. Right now it is just a chip with some small fingers. The original windshield sucks, it looked like it was sand blasted

yeah the only problem is you can't claim it too often... (like after every hit) or else your premiums will go up...

I've caught two good hits so far... one left a sizeable mark.. the other is just a small dot. the second one hit really hard (it was big), but it was on its way up rather than down (like the first one)... so if only left a mark from the deflection.

I think one more hit and I'm taking it in for windshield replacement...
BTW, are there better windshields? like ones which are more sturdy?

My pick up has at least ten breaks. I usually wait until I trade it in and then have them replace the windshield at the dealer. I don't want to call them every few months

Despite numerous cracks and chips, my windshield has held up well. I've got a crack that I got when the Box was 3 weeks old that's grown millimeters at most, a nice star down by the passenger corner, 2-3 other notable cracks, not to mention the pitting that looks like it was sandblasted, Well I guess it was.

I caught a rock this morning that I saw coming in. It came right OVER the top of the Honda in front of me and was going so straight, i thought it was a bug, until it hit! A nice semicircle angled chip with 2-3 lines coming out. This may be the one that does it in. Luckily, it hit just barely above my tint strip so it's kinda hidden, but not really.

The CHP needs to start cracking down on all these FUVs and lifted trucks with no mudflaps...
