Default Did not expect this tank to be good!!

I just filled up this tank and I really thought it would suck. I hammered it on the highway(driving at 80MPH , with AC) , carried a couple hundred pounds for 70 miles and I even had a tire that was way lower than my normal psi. TO my surprise I filled up and it was my all time best of 43.1

The only thing I started to do differently is that I don't lug the car as much as I used to in 2nd gear. I apply more gas and get the rpm's up to 2500 or so rather than under 2thou like I used to. My numbers used to dip a lot but since switching they barely drop in 2nd gear- I'm a big scanguage fan

has this ever happened to any of you??

I'm sure it's possible. Just not realistic for me to drive a certain way. I don't get to drive mine much so when I do drive it I enjoy and say the heck with the MPGs.

That may change if I ever get a Scan Gauge tho and if gas gets to be north of 5 bucks.

Awesome results! Just think what you'll get next time when you're trying!

You better believe it! My best is 43.6 so far, and was regularly running in the 37-38 range when trying to drive halfway conservatively (while commuting)!

Yes, but with gentle driving under 60. To be sure your pump did not shut off prematurely and give you a short tank, you need to see what the next tank gets.

I miss my 34mpg. Now that I've gotten 17s, I can barely hit 30mpg.

^^^ LOL. I am a minimalist and if the stock box gets gr8 gas mileage, im not gonna change ANYTHING that would affect it - wheels, intake, etc etc etc.

last summer, i filled up in new hampshire, drove 250 miles back down to NYC and still had gas for 2 weeks for my parents to go back and forth to work (~8 to ~12 miles one way, roughly)... i wish i had calculated the gas milage then but i am sure it was insane! and when i drove down, i was doing north of 70 with the AC on blast as well!

and im going back to NH this friday =]]]]

I do practice hypermiling - it can be lots of fun as well. I'm not always going 30 or 40 miles per hour. The scanguage is a huge asset as well as inflating the tires at side wall or higher.

Really anyone can get better numbers it just takes self discipline.

just bought my box about 2 months ago.. and filling up at the pump almost makes me cry..

but for all the right reasons

I got 42mpg once, all highway, low A/C, but only about 90mi trip.

I was filling it up expecting to put in at least 2 gallons, but it stoped at like 1.5 and I was jutst like "SAWEET!"

It's always fun pulling up next to an SUV or Pickup that has already started to fill up, and finishing before they do

I really like doing that when we are on our bikes. We always discuss how many gallons we take to fill, Then check those against the odometer miles to do a quickie MPG guess. All this out loud so the SUV folks can hear us as those dollars keep ticking away. HA HA good times!

average for me, running 70-80 MPH, mainly freeway, Getting around 32-34. Always goes to 32, then two tanks later 34, then the next tank 33, etc... never consistent. I do have bolt on mods and 17's at proper pressure. So maybe I got a lucky high MPG car but is messing it up with the mods... maybe not. you decide

Your figures are about a nice normal average people should get with 17 inch wheels. Have you tried a couple tanks with the steelies on instead. That will let you know how much mpgs you are loosing by running the 17s.

I don't know if this is a placebo or something along that line of mental effect, but I notice I get better gas mileage if I keep it at 80, rather than keeping it a 55 on the highway.
