Does this grand total for a manual Xb sound right?
Does this final price sound right? I asked my local Tucson Scion dealer what the price for a manual Xb with no options would be. They said the grand total price including taxes and fees will be $16,030.16. The total for fees is $541.08 which I think has the $241.83 for the license included (otherwise all the numbers are wrong). Total tax is $1,094.02 which includes a stupid $5.00 tire tax @ $1.00 per tire (some sort of tax in Arizona I guess). So the price for the car itself comes out to be the standard $14,395.
I have to ask the dealer exactly what items are included in the fees & taxes. How much did you have to pay for fees and taxes? Does the grand total sound about right? I know taxes differ by state and county but they should be close to other places.
Is there any room for negotiating with fees or is it part of the "pure price" experience? I will not trade my car in, I'll sell it privately later.

Boy I didn't think the prices would be that different. I should check with Phoenix area Scion's too. I asked a friend in LA to check things out there, I could fly on SouthWest and drive back in style.
They might have some bullsh*t fees added on. One option which I like but don't want to get from them is leather seats. I saw the leater on a tC and it seemed to be tight fitting. I have to figure out who in Tucson puts the leather on for them, I don't want to be filling the dealer's coffers if I can avoid it.
i got mine with a few options for less than that. I wouldnt think over 16 grand would be right. Best way to do it is shop internet style and use all the quotes against other dealers. Takes a little longer but get a great deal.
I got my 2005 for 15,200 out the door with extended warrenty. Took me 3 weeks to get the deal situated, but I think it was well worth it in the end.

I dont know what some of you have been doing but there should be ABSOLUTELY NO NEGOTIATIONS with any Scion. The dealers that are apparantly negotiating run the risk, and it is a high risk, of losing their franchise license. $15,420 would be my out the door price with tax+tag included on that model with no accessories. Your number should be close to that with the variance in taxes and fees. I feel like the number posted might be a little high. Also the dealer can raise the price as long as they post it on their cars and the website. They just cant negotiate each deal under no circumstances. Hope that helped...
The chunk of the price comes from taxes. I don't know if Arizona and Pima county have high taxes or if the dealer is adding junk to the taxes. I'll call Phoenix and LA dealers to see how the prices compare. I talked to someone who bought a Scion in Tucson and they waited 6 weeks for an Xa, that sounds like an excruciatingly long time. The dealer doesn't keep almost any scion cars on the lot from what I hear.
Like hand grenades, it's close enough. In southern Cal, the rule of thumb I've been told is price times 1.10, should get you the out the door price. Using this formula, with a price of $14395, you'd be looking at $15835 OTD, which is $195 less that the price you were quoted.
Seems to me that you're expending a lot of energy for such a small amount of money. But for some, I know it's the principle of the thing. But to me, $195 is not worth all this time you're spending trying to find out if it's a good deal or not. If they've got one that you want, and the price is "close enough", just get it...

I called dealers in LA and Phoenix. Generally the answer I got was that it would be normal for taxes & fees to be about 10% to 11% of the price of the car. And considering that 2006's cost a little bit more than 2005 I can see where the price increase is coming from.
Did most of you have to order your xB, or did the dealership have one that you wanted sitting on the lot? The dealers here in Tucson usually order each and every Scion, they barely keep any on the lot. I guess I might have to wait 5-6 weeks for mine.

There should be no "Fee". Only fees would be for tagging or title -costs-
Local dealer tacks on &599 "fee" for "dealer prep and misc". And this is a bogus charge, perfectly legal but you -don't have to pay it. Go elswhere if you dealer is padding the bill.
They have their "dealer prep" and such paid for by Scion and by the "no haggle" one-price Scion policy.
I wish Scion would require dealers to respect the national advertising. The common result amounts to a Big Lie and it sours people to find out this way (by me or by reading the actual charges) that they were had.
