Default Doing maintenance on my car - plugs and wires?

I plan on tuning up my car before the winter comes. Does anyone have suggestions as to what cables and plugs you would use?
I haven't done a tune-up on a car since my '94 Jeep a year ago, so I'm a bit out of touch as to what's new and best to use.
Any help would be appreciated.
