Default door lock problems

On my 2005 xb i cant seem to get the passenger side front door lock to work. the notch goes up but the door won't open.

i was in an accident recently and they replaced the doorshell. Im hoping i can fix this myself since the body shop near me is the most inefficient burocracy ever. took them 3 tries paint the car without run off drips.

Im thinkin the door panel comes off somehow to reveal the door lock mechinism.

please tell me this is something easy to fix. Im a doit yourselfer who sees angus mcguyver as my hero and believes i can fix everything with anything. dont ruin my dream.

do a search on lighted lock posts. it describes how to get the panel off. it's in the tech section somewhere I think.

does it not open from the outside, inside or both. I recently discovered that the xB has child safety locks, it *might* be engaged , but since you were in an accident, that may very well be whats wrong with it.

Dude you're not alone. I have the same problem but it was fixed by the dealer. It's a latch that's inside the panel that kept getting stuck that's why it never opened even if the door was unlocked. Take your bok-kusu to the dealer. Just my $0.02.

Child safety locks are only on the rear doors. The door panel is easy to take off, 2 screws and the little pushpin thing and then just pull at the bottom and then unplug the controls. It takes less than 2 minutes. I'd take a peek and just see if its something obvious. If you take it to the dealer and it's due to the bodywork, you may have to pay their shop rate for it. I'd look myself first.

i wanna fix it myself. me and the dealership/bodyshop people arn't friends. I see the screw on the door lock but is there another.

**the idiot at the dealership told me to open the door the lock area for foreign parts.

i reminded him the door lock won't move and he told me he couldn't help.

I see the one screw and am looking for more if you know the location of all the screw please tell me so i can find them and open the door.

look for posts on sound deadening/dynamatting...people go into some detail on these. on the back doors, which I think are the same, there's a screw by the open handle, and one in the handle on the armrest. then do like the scionic man said, and pull from the bottom.

if you search on sound deadening, you'll get more detail. but it's really easy, just go slowly.

One screw in the door handle, one in the cup/grab handle part of the armrest area. One pseudo-screw/pin thing at the front edge of the door panel near the top. Would be hidden by the dash when closed
