Default Driver door not opening?

So I went outside to go to work today and got in my car no problem. Turn it on, let it sit for a minute while I drink some coffee and set up my music. I drive to work with no problems. Then I get into the parking lot, turn off my music, gather my things and turn the car off. I go to open the door to leave and my door opened just a tiny bit and then stopped. I check to see if I accidentally hit the lock, but it was unlocked. So I use the button to lock, then unlock it again and same thing happens. I ended up getting out the passenger side and trying it from the outside. It opened a tiny bit and stopped again.

What the hell is going on with my car? I thought it might be a cold issue, but today is warmer than it has been in the past 3 days so I don't know. I'm going to go and try it again a little later, but my 3 month old car is messed up and I'm ____ed.

The car has not been hit or tampered with in any way, so I don't know what could have possibly done it.

Am I the first to deal with this?

I have no idea if this is the first time this has happened to an xB, but it is the first time I read about it. I would suggest taking your xB to the dealership to see if they have more information for you.

so the door is unlocking and starting to open but something is preventing it from opening all the way? did something fall into the door jam preventing the door from swinging open?? i dunno man this sounds very odd. hope you figure it out though :-)

That isn't the issue at all.

@snowromance, you hit it on the head. There was nothing stuck in the door jam or anything so I had no clue what the deal was. I did go back out and try about an hour or so later when I had a few free minutes, and the door opened. I tried it a few more times without an issue.

I called the dealer and I'm gonna drop it off tomorrow and get a loaner until monday.

i know exactly what is happening,

this happens o me at least once a week, what happens is the outside handle, once opened, rebounds back to a slightly open position... put your window down, pull the lock up manually then open the door from the outside...

hope that helps man...

it could also be a bad catch or latch on the door *the catch is the part in the jamb if not adjusted right you might get this issue, the latch is the part in the door and it could have been defective and just finally broke*

If this is the case, you might do well to soak the living heck out of it with WD-40...if the door handle is sticking, it'd either be because of a mis-shapen door handle (nothing you can do about) or just plain old friction.

Empty half a bottle or so of WD-40 into the door handle and see what happens.

I had a problem with my passenger door refusing to close the last 4 inches or so, and a variation on this solution fixed it right up. GOOD LUCK!

My Box used to do this, as well. I have an 06' and I thought it was a bad lock mechanism. However, I found out what was causing it. When I ride, I cruise with my arm resting on the doorlocks while the window is rolled down. Basically my elbow was sitting on the door lock. Then, when I get to where I am going, I rolled the window up and it made it to where the door wouldnt open. I found that I was kinda pushing the door lock down by resting my arm on it trying to look "cool". Since, I have stopped doing it and it hasnt happend since.

Well they ended up just checking it when I got there today. They took off the panel and checked for moisture or any obstruction and there was none. A lil bit of grease and I was sent packing.

Mine did it to, but didnt even open!!! i went for a drive, got home, went to open the door, and nothin at all, check to make sure it was unlocked, and it was. So i held the handle open and bumped against it, still nothing, i washed my car, it was about 0 degrees outside, door wasnt frozen shut. so i rolled down the rear window, reached around and tried the outside handle, nothin. so after crawling out the passanger door, messed with the belts, shut the hood, went around and the door opend!!!! CRAZY!!!

I have a simular problem where I can't open it from the inside.
It seems that the linkage in the door might be bent or something.
Just like redneck said, I open it from the outside.
It happens very rare to me but it sure does ____ me off when it does happen.

I'm too lazy to take it to the dealer for this problem.
